MAC names new commissioner

The Mid-American Conference named the current Ohio Valley Conference commissioner as its new commissioner today. Jon A. Steinbrecher, who served six years as the OVC commissioner, will replace current MAC commissioner Rick Chryst. In January Chryst announced he will retire from the conference he led for 10 years once his contract ends June 30.

BASEBALL: Cards look to avoid luck of the Irish

The luck of the Irish takes the Ball State University baseball team to South Bend on St. Patrick's Day to play the University of Notre Dame. The Cardinals will hope to overcome any good bounces that come the way of the Fighting Irish on the day celebrating the patron saint of Ireland.

Journalists to discuss government secrecy

Bill Nichols, managing editor of Politico.com, and Tony Fargo, an assistant professor of journalism at Indiana University, will speak in the David Letterman Communications and Media Building on Monday. According to Politico.com, Nichols worked for USA Today for more than 20 years prior to joining the Politico team.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Packard: Tracy Roller deserves credit

CLEVELAND - Kelly Packard stood before the media following her team's 55-51 Mid-American Conference Championship-winning game against Bowling Green State University and could've taken all the credit. After all, it was under her leadership that the Ball State University women's basketball team advanced to its first NCAA Tournament, won its first-ever MAC Championship and won a school-record 25 games with the postseason yet to be played.

TRACK AND FIELD: Williams finishes 12th in NCAA championship meet

Ball State University fifth-year senior Amber Williams finished the 2009 NCAA Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships 60-meter hurdle race in 12th place this past weekend. Williams competed against 18 of the nation's best to represent the Ball State track and field team in the NCAA Championships.

The 2009 Ball State University women's basketball team danced its way into history Sunday as it won the program's first-ever Mid-American Conference Championship and admission into the NCAA Tournament. As the women celebrated, administrators began organizing a viewing party at Damon's Grill where fans, friends and family can support the team as it finds out where it will play next.

BASEBALL: Cards finish break even

A 3-0 loss to Chicago State University on Sunday sends the Ball State University baseball team back to where it started Spring Break, two games above .500. The Cardinals went 5-5 during three series and improved their record to 9-7. Sunday's loss prevented the Cardinals from sweeping their home-opening series, after splitting two games at Southern Illinois University and dropping three of four at the University of Missouri.

GYMNASTICS: Cardinals conclude regular season with last place finish

The Ball State University gymnastic team's regular season concluded Friday as the Cardinals finished in fourth place out of four teams in a tournament that included California State University, Fullerton, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and host Arizona State University.

Journalism chair awarded

With more than 32 years of service on her résumé, Marilyn Weaver has won the Scripps Howard Foundation Journalism Administrator of the Year Award. The award is given in collaboration with the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

THINK TO EXIST: Birthday party leads to night of shenanigans

So there I was, flabbergasted by what was taking place. I was celebrating a friend's 21st birthday. There were 10 of us: five boys and five girls. The scene was Broad Ripple. The night was entertaining, but it ended with the birthday girl getting hurled on by one of our friends.
