EPIC Institute to teach curriculum design

Ball State University's Center for Technology in Education will have the third annual EPIC Institute today to help education students and professionals with curriculum design. CTE director Matthew Stuve said Evidence-based Professional Instructional Change is a collaboration between Ball State and several K-12 schools in Indiana.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Gratton named to academic All-MAC team

Ball State University women's basketball player Danielle Gratton added another award to her résumé Monday as she was named to the 2008-09 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Team. Gratton led Ball State with seven rebounds per game in addition to her 11.

New UCC course to tackle debt

Credit card debt and other personal financial topics will be addressed in the new core curriculum course Personal Finance for Fiscal Wellness. According to the latest edition of a study by the Sallie Mae Foundation, college students had the highest amount of credit card debt last year since the survey was first conducted in 1998.

Housing wants new policy

Ball State University's Office of Housing and Residence Life will look into developing individual communication systems among each residence hall in response to a bomb threat at LaFollette Complex this weekend. Ball State police and the Delaware County Bomb Squad swept the building and evacuated LaFollette Field early Saturday after police received a call about a bomb in the LaFollette area.

The Ball State University softball team will look to snap a three-game non-conference losing streak today as it starts a two-day mid-week road trip. The Cardinals will travel south of the Ohio River for the first time in more than a month, as they will play a doubleheader against Morehead State University.

Impending rain forced the Ball State University baseball team to move Sunday's game against Central Michigan University to Saturday, creating a doubleheader. The Cardinals had already lost two games this week to poor weather and didn't want to miss another.

SOFTBALL: Parents pick great weekend to see daughters play at Ball State

Many parents try to be as supportive of their children's sports endeavors as possible. Once their child enters college, it can become very problematic, as the athlete can travel to a school on the other side of the country in some cases. This can create an interesting situation for both the parents and athletes, as both are accustomed to the parents attending the vast majority of games.

Tents sprung up by the dozens Friday and stayed through Sunday morning. Vendors selling handcrafted tie-dye T-shirts, beads, hemp necklaces, skirts and hats lined the concrete around the two stages.

On the right side of the Cardinal Creek Tennis Courts, the Northern Illinois University men's tennis team celebrated a comeback victory. On the left side, the Ball State University men's tennis team huddled in a circle wondering how it squandered a 3-0 lead.

300 attend 2nd annual Record Store Day

Sunny, warm weather, large crowds and live music helped the second annual National Record Store Day at Village Green Records attract hundreds of people, building on the foundation set by last year's event. Village Green Records owner Travis Harvey said despite a few "hiccups" early in the day, he was happy with the way the day went.

TRACK AND FIELD: BSU finishes third at invite

Ball State University track and field team member junior Katie Johnson racked up eight of the 30 points for the Cardinals at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational. The team finished third in the Friday and Saturday meet at Louisville, Ky. Johnson clocked in a first place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a 14.

North lot closing for carnival

Students who usually park in the C1 parking lot on the north side of Ball State University's campus will have to move their vehicles by 10 p.m. Tuesday or else be towed. Nancy Wray, parking services office manager, said the lot is closing to make room for the Late Nite Carnival, which is scheduled for Friday.

23rd Taste of Muncie features 23 restaurants

More than 500 people sampled 23 Muncie restaurants on Sunday at the 23rd annual Taste of Muncie at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. The fundraising event included 23 eateries offering samples, live entertainment and raffle prizes given out by the vendors.
