6 people wounded after shooting at college in Texas

HOUSTON (AP) - A drive-by shooting at a community rally on the Texas Southern University campus Wednesday night left six people wounded, a school spokeswoman said. Police believe the incident was gang-related.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday that the Cardinals were one of 71 Division I women's volleyball teams to earn the Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 season. It is the first time since 2004 Ball State has received this award.

College costs continues to rise for Ball State, other universities

College costs are rising faster than health care and most incomes, a rate of increase that cannot go on forever, experts in higher education warn. Haley Glover, an Indiana associate commissioner for higher education, said if tuition continues to rise at the current rate, a typical college degree 15 years from now could cost $300,000.

The Ball State University football team will be transitioning from a player who was eighth in the 2008 Heisman Trophy balloting to a player who hasn't taken a snap in more than two years. Kelly Page - one of the three candidates to replace all-conference starting quarterback Nate Davis - is considered by many to be the front-runner for the starting spot.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State to play North Dakota State on road in November

The Ball State University women 's basketball team will play North Dakota State University on Nov. 27 in Fargo N.D., according to a press release Wednesday from North Dakota State. The Cardinals have not released their 2009-2010 schedule, so the Bisons schedule is the first glimpse into the Cardinal schedule.

Delaware County Fair remains busy midway through event

Muncie residents still have a few days left to experience the thrills and culinary treats of the 157th annual Delaware County Fair. Admission to the fair, which is sponsored by the Delaware County 4-H Club, is free. Jane Lasater, president of the Delaware County Fair Board, said the fair doesn't have a theme other than community involvement.

The university survived a summer without any huge scandals, such as racist notes being found in the office of a Ball State coach or a university professor being arrested.

Professor bikes across Indiana

A Ball State professor put his endurance to the test Saturday as he biked 160 miles across Indiana. Physical fitness instructor Seemann Baugh finished the Ride Across INdiana, or RAIN, event in 174th place with a time of 8 hours and 17 minutes. Baugh, who has participated in the event in past years, said this was his best time by 33 minutes.
