The Fray tickets go on sale to Ball State faculty, staff

Ball State faculty and staff can now purchase tickets to see The Fray at John R. Emens Auditorium after a week of student-only sales.Kristi Chambers, assistant director of marketing and communications at Emens, said about 1,900 tickets were sold to students for the Sept.

Ball State to host 'Insider Luncheon' on Friday

The Ball State Insider Luncheon series will return at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Ball State Alumni Center.The program will give students and others the chance to meet head coach Pete Lembo and the players before the season opener against Colgate.Tickets cost $15 individually and $100 for a table of eight.

Track & field hires assistant coach

Former Ball State’s men’s track and field and cross country head coach Joe Rogers has been named an assistant coach for the women’s track and field and cross country programs. “I am absolutely delighted to come back to Ball State and help [head coach Randy Heisler] with the women's program,” Rogers said in a statement.Rogers’ first stint at the university, which lasted from 1985 until his retirement in 1999, was a successful one.He helped lead the cross country team to the Mid-American Conference Championship in 1987, winning the MAC Coach of the Year.

The Ball State Student Government Association kicked off the year at their first meeting with a new legislation idea on Wednesday.

Technical worker for Cirque Du Soleil production now working for Ball State

While over 3,000 people sat in the audience of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino watching Cirque du Soleil’s “O,” Alan Perez was working behind the set as a technical rigger.Now Perez is making the change from Las Vegas to join the Ball State Department of Theatre and Dance staff. “I had heard about Ball State’s theatre department and the great things they’ve done,” he said. “So I had to take this opportunity.”

FOOTBALL: Edwards carries team with multi-faceted running style

Senior running back Jahwan Edwards will never complain about catching the football out of the backfield, taking a sweep right or left, or throwing a block to protect his quarterback.But if it was up to him, he’d be running the ball up the middle all game.The starter for the Ball State football team, Edwards said he squares his shoulders toward the goalline and uses momentum to power through defenders.

Israel and Gaza agree to cease-fire

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) ? Israel and Gaza’s ruling Hamas agreed Tuesday to an open-ended cease-fire after seven weeks of fighting ? an uneasy deal that halts the deadliest war the sides have fought in years, with more than 2,200 killed, but puts off the most difficult issues.In the end, both sides settled for an ambiguous interim agreement in exchange for a period of calm.

Students may have received an unexpected email in their inbox this semester – an invitation to join the new education site, StudyRoom.StudyRoom is a site and application, similar to Blackboard, designed for students to communicate without teachers present.

Dunk-A-Cop rescheduled

After being canceled due to rain, the second annual Dunk-A-Cop event is rescheduled for Friday, according to an email sent by the Communications Center.The University Police Department uses the event to raise money for the Special Olympics of Indiana.

Federal judges hear Indiana gay marriage case

CHICAGO (AP) Federal appeals judges bristled Tuesday at arguments defending gay marriage bans in Indiana and Wisconsin,with one Republican appointee comparing them to now-defunct laws that once outlawed weddings between blacks and whites.

FOOTBALL: Run defense will be tested by Colgate

Ball State’s new look defensive line won’t be eased into the season by any means.Saturday’s opponent, Colgate, is a run-heavy team that will test Ball State’s Michael Ayers, Darnell Smith, Keenan Noel and Nick Miles for all four quarters.Miles is the only returning starter from the defensive line last season and is just one Cardinal defender who will be dealing with a varied Raider rushing attack.“We’ll have to play fast and be relentless,” Miles said.
