The Women, Gender, and African American Studies programs have joined together to create a new department, welcoming a host of fresh and familiar faces to the program. Yet as the year begins in earnest, there is already reflection on the nature of the merge.
At the Music For All Summer Symposium, held on Ball State’s campus June 24 through July 1, there’s a team of people called SWAGs behind every practice session, every fun activity, or even group transportation around campus.
For Ball State, the student trustee must be a resident of Indiana and have a 2.5 or better grade point average at the time of the application. The position includes $50 for each meeting and Commencement attended, a 10% discount at the Ball State bookstore, and an all-access parking pass, among many things.

Director of Public Safety and Chief of University Police Jim Duckham officially retired Aug. 31 after more than 30 years in law enforcement, including over nine years with Ball State. The Indiana Supreme Court on Monday denied a request to rehear its ruling upholding the state’s near-total abortion ban. That means the new law — which prohibits the procedure with only narrow exceptions — immediately takes effect once the ruling is certified on the court docket, which is expected to be a matter of days, according to court officials.

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — Survivors of deadly wildfires on Maui contended with intermittent power and unreliable cell service as they sought help rebuilding their lives. Teams of people, meanwhile, labored to find the dead and identify them. With the death toll already at 106, a mobile morgue unit with additional coroners arrived in Hawaii on Tuesday to help with the grim task of sorting through remains. The governor warned that a new storm could complicate the search and recovery.
