Although there are no reported incidents of hate crimes on Ball State's campus, it is still a large national issue. The Federal Bureau of Investigation's most recent report on hate crimes shows that law enforcement agencies submitted incident reports involving 5,479 criminal incidents and 6,418 offenses motivated by bias toward race, gender, gender identity, religion, disability, sexual orientation and ethnicity in 2014, according to a press release.
It should come as no surprise that the most recurring incident at Ball State is underage drinking.
This year’s Student Government Association president has been preparing for the position since he was a freshman at Ball State. Now in his last semester as president, Jack Hesser and his slate have already accomplished many of their original platform points.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity March on Jan. 18 has been canceled due to the cold weather, according to a university-wide email.

Christian Campus House, a non-denominational church, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016. University police saw no shortage of crime during Winter Break, with the numbers of break-ins and thefts rising to 14 incidents — more than the previous three years. The University Police Department responded to 11 calls for burglaries, an increase from seven calls from break 2014 and zero calls from break 2013. The break-ins reflected in the data only include calls UPD responds to, and does not include burglaries the Muncie Police Department may have responded to.
Construction for a $25.9 million immersive living/learning laboratory was supposed to start in 2015, but its spot on the edge of campus remains empty.
After receiving more than 1,200 ideas and 1,400 students logging on to vote on ideas, the My Voice campaign is working on choosing which ideas to pursue. A group of five Digital Corps students are currently working with Digital Corps director Brandon Smith and Stuart Sipahigil, senior strategist for enterprise user engagement, to form Charters for Change, which will identify the problems.
Hoverboards are no longer permitted in university residence halls after the university sent out an email over break.
The university’s Board of Trustees held its end-of-semester meetings on Dec. 18, covering topics ranging from this year’s Campus Fire and Safety Report to a 12 percent increase in applications to Ball State from this time last year.
