3 takeaways from women's basketball media day

Ball State women's basketball returns four starters in the 2016-17 season -- but won't return the program's all-time leading scorer. Nathalie Fontaine finished her Ball State career with a record 2,166 points and broke a number of season records, including points scored (660). She was also the only player in the Mid-American Conference to average more than 20 points (20.6) and 10 rebounds (10.2) per game. The Cardinals finished 22-10, making the Women's National Invitation Tournament for the fourth season in a row. Ball State will set its goals higher this year, looking to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009, when the program, a 14-seed, upset 3-seed Tennessee in one of the biggest upsets of women's basketball history. Head coach Brady Sallee, senior guard Jill Morrison and junior forward Moriah Monaco were all at women's basketball media day to address how the team will move forward. Here are 3 takeaways from the press conference Oct.

Guardian journalist focuses on Muncie in election series

American elections aren't overly interesting to Gary Younge, editor-at-large for the Guardian. What is interesting to him, however, are the issues. The Black Lives Matter movement, LGBT issues, transgender studies, slut walks — the things that bring people together and incite passion.

Who are Ball State students rooting for in the World Series?

With the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians facing off in the World Series, fans in Illinois and Ohio are full of excitement -- and Indiana is smack dab in the middle. Progressive Field in Cleveland stands about 280 miles Northeast of Ball State, while Chicago's Wrigley Field is about 240 miles Northwest.

GENERALLY SPEAKING: Tears of joy, the Chicago Cubs and the World Series

I cried three times after the game. Twice Saturday night when I witnessed a 71-year-old World Series drought come to an end, and once more after I woke up the next morning realizing that it wasn’t a dream. Sitting by myself, I re-watched the final play of the National League Championship Series — a play that I, like so many other Chicago Cubs fans, will not soon forget. Six words from long-time Fox Sportscaster Joe Buck will resonate with fans after the Chicago Cubs knocked off the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 in Game Six of the NLCS. "The Cubs have won the pennant."
