The Ball State baseball team used a seventh-inning, two-run double from Sean Godfrey to defeat Western Michigan 5-3 in the first round of the MAC tournament.
After being voted the No. 26 team in the nation in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Poll, the Ball State baseball team was again recognized for its strong regular season by dominating the Mid-American Conference’s postseason awards.
The Ball State baseball team ended its 2014 regular season today with a 10-2 victory at Northern Illinois.With the win, the Cardinals finished the year 38-16 overall, while boasting a 22-4 mark inside the Mid-American Conference.Clay Manering got the start for Ball State, and the senior southpaw went five innings, allowing one run on five hits to earn his third win of the season.Catcher Jarret Rindfleisch opened the scoring for the Cardinals with a RBI double in the top of the first inning, and a throwing error on the Huskies in the third led to three more Cardinal runs.After the Huskies posted the team's first run of the game on a RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals answered with an Alex Maloney two-run triple in the top of the fifth to make the score 6-1.Back-to-back RBI singles from Nick Hollowell and Alex Call in the seventh extended Ball State’s lead to 8-1, and Matt Eppers added to the onslaught with a two RBI double to make the score 10-1.A bottom of the ninth-inning home run by the Huskies cut the score to 10-2, but it was as close as the team would get, as the Cardinals held on for the sweep.The Cardinals will open MAC Tournament play
With its 4-3 win against Northern Illinois today, the Ball State baseball team clinched the Mid-American Conference regular season championship.
For 10 seniors on the Ball State baseball team, Sunday’s 9-8 walk-off victory over Kent State would mark the last time they would play on their home field.“It’s exciting but sad all at the same time,” senior Kyle Raleigh said after the game.
Tied at four in the bottom of the ninth inning this afternoon, third baseman Sean Kennedy knocked a bases loaded single back up the middle to give Ball State the walk-off win, 5-4, over visiting Kent State.With the win, head coach Rich Maloney tied former Ball State baseball coach Pete Quinn for the most wins in the program's history with 323.Pitcher Scott Baker started the game for the Cardinals, allowing three runs on nine hits over seven innings of work.Kent State broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the ninth to take a one-run lead, but a dropped pop-up in the bottom of the inning opened the door for Ball State.The Cardinals proceeded to load the bases following the error, and Kennedy ultimately delivered with the game winning hit.Zach Plesac, who came into the game in relief for Ball State earned his 11th win

After sweeping Central Michigan to move to first place in the Mid-American Conference’s West Division, the Ball State baseball team visited Akron, Ohio, today to start a three-game series with the Akron Zips.Starting pitcher T.J.

Through 11 conference games, the Ball State baseball team is off to its best start since 2010. At 9-2, Ball State trails Central Michigan by one victory for first place in the Mid-American conference’s West Division.MAC preseason polls, voted on by the league’s head coaches, tabbed Ball State to win the MAC West — a feat the team has not accomplished since 2006.

Upperclassmen typically carry the offensive burden for baseball teams, but Ball State is an exception.The Cardinals stand at 22-10 overall and 7-1 in the Mid-American Conference, just a half game behind the Central Michigan Chippewas for first place in the MAC West.
As Sean Godfrey stepped to the plate in the bottom of the ninth against Eastern Michigan, his stat sheets were already pretty full.The Ball State right fielder already had 10 RBIs, hit a grand slam and two wins under his belt.
The Cardinals’ match up with Northern Kentucky on Wednesday came to an abrupt end when rain and lightning forced the game to be called in the seventh inning. NCAA rules state that if a game is prematurely stopped due to weather and at least five innings have been played, then the score will resort back to what it was after the last completed full inning.
In a game that was competitive early on, the Ball State baseball team was able to defeat Indiana Tech 13-8 today.
Grinding out wins has become a common occurrence for the Ball State baseball team. En route to a 18-9 start, the offense and defense have taken turns controlling play and bringing the team to victory. In the Cardinals’ first 28 games, there were 10 occasions where the offense pushed across six runs or more, and there were 13 outings where the team managed four runs or less.
