LETTERS: Drivers must be more aware of pedestrians around campus

Dear Editor, This happened to me twice yesterday: In the morning in the Village and the afternoon at the corner of Neely and McKinley avenues: I was almost hit by a moving car. The first time, it was by a car wanting to beat the cross traffic while I was 2 to 3 steps into the crosswalk, and the second time by a car going eastbound on Neely Avenue and turning left onto McKinley Avenue.

Mind your classroom manners

For most of us, the rules of classroom behavior go without being said. Unfortunately, some students can't seem to grasp the simple fact that asking the professor to re-explain the Theory of Relativity when there are clearly only twenty-five seconds left in class isn't going to win them any popularity contests.

OUR VIEW: It adds up

If Indiana could make a few dollars every time a student from Ball State went home to southern Indiana, the state would be millions of dollars richer in a short period of time. Add to that the number of students from other colleges who head home on the weekends, the number of students who travel between schools for social activities and the number of faculty members who commute to work.

Finally adding a sixth person, freshman Natalie Hesler, to the lineup on the uneven bars didn't help the score as expected. The home meet against Kent State University was another loss for Ball State's gymnastics team. Performances on the uneven bars accounted for 2.

THE DORK REPORT: Republicans' cuts rob poor students of opportunities

We used to live in a society in which hard work and fair play could take you to the top, but it appears that society has started to wither away. Hard work and fair play still play vital roles, of course, but now you also need money. The average student graduates from college with nearly $20,000 in student loan debt, according to the Public Interest Research Group.

CLIMBING THE WALLS: Hollywood rewards unsatisfactory films

We are deep into the season that honors movies from the past year, yet the prevalent themes in such winning pictures sound more like a Halloween party than an awards show - country singers, gay cowboys and musical producers, to name a few. Formerly credible awards shows such as the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards have now opened their nominations to novelty films, including "Walk the Line" and "Brokeback Mountain.

YOUR TURN: Message of pageant more important than Miss Unity's race

There is a reason I didn't walk backwards during my first walk across stage as Miss Unity 2006. Those first steps forward were literal, as well as metaphorical. On the night of the pageant, I was excited beyond belief to start my position as Miss Unity and to put my plans for unifying our campus into action.

Dear Editor, Vinnie Lopes [in his Jan. 24 column] seemed to have missed the point. The Nest rushing the court after Saturday's victory over Bowling Green was more for morale, not celebration.
