The Ball State University softball team split its four games this weekend at the Iowa Hawkeye Classic. On the first day, the Cardinals (6-10) snapped its four-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over South Dakota State and followed that up with a 3-0 defeat of Loyola .

Interim Provost accepts job at University of Indianapolis

Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Deborah Balogh accepted a position at the University of Indianapolis starting June 15. Balogh was named interim provost in June 2005. Provost to start July 17, will make working visits to campus in April

After 10 months, six open forums and two searches, Ball State University President Jo Ann Gora named Terry King as provost on Thursday. Gora said she chose King, the dean of the College of Engineering at Kansas State University, because of his experience in several areas including developing external partnerships, working on strategic plans and communicating across colleges.

After a two-week layoff, the Ball State University softball team (4-8) will resume its season with four games this weekend. The Cardinals travel to Iowa City, Iowa to compete in the Iowa Hawkeye Classic. The tournament consists of four other teams: South Dakota State University (12-11), Loyola University (4-14), North Dakota State University (6-18) and Iowa University (13-12).

When Ball State University's football team takes the field for the first time on Saturday several returning players, from a team that finished 4-7 last season, will be moving to the opposite side of the ball. Running backs Jovens Degage and Corey McGee will move into the secondary as cornerbacks.

Rainbow Cathedral cancels service

Nine months after its establishment, Rainbow Cathedral, the first gay-oriented church in Muncie, had cancelled its service for the first time last Sunday. After the recent resignation of the pastor, Rainbow Cathedral's congregation has dropped from 15 to 20 regular members to only four, including a member who has been substituting as pastor while the cathedral is looking for a new alternative lifestyle minister.

The 14th annual Kappa Delta sorority philanthropic event, ShamRock 'N Bowl, will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Clancy's Village Bowl. The cost to bowl is $10 per person or $40 per team of four. Student files lawsuit

A freshman at Ball State University, with the American Civil Liberties Union, filed a lawsuit Wednesday aiming to overturn a law that keeps students who are convicted of a drug violation from receiving federal financial aid. Alexis Schwab, a public relations major, is one of three individuals involved in the lawsuit, teaming with the ACLU and the Students for Sensible Drug Policy Foundation.

The Ball State University women's tennis team (6-6) will open conference play this weekend as it travels to play Toledo and Eastern Michigan. "They're more emotional," coach Kathy Bull said. "Everyone is more attached because there's history there. These are always really challenging matches.
