SPEAK SOFTLY: Final victory in Iraq will happen when troops come home

There is one question that has been on the minds most Americans since 2003: When will our troops be out of Iraq? It is a fierce debate on Capital Hill as well as in the media. It seems as if every day the media have a press conference and ask that question as if the response will be different than it was the day before.

OUR VIEW: Lazy Muncie

Every year, the complaint is the same: There's nothing to do in Muncie. This gripe seems to get even louder in the summer as the social scene dwindles with the majority of students gone for the break. Despite the best efforts of Muncie's event planners and officials, business people and politicians, a surprising explanation for boredom has arisen: Ball State University students just aren't looking anymore.

Every weekday morning, Kate Frazier drives a solitary and relaxing one hour and ten minutes from her home in Indianapolis, where she lives with her life partner and two children, to her Criminal Justice class at Ball State University. DIET WATER: Quarterback gets tackled by safety

I'd like to begin by taking a moment to reflect on the tragic events that occurred on Tuesday morning in Pittsburg. Steeler fans, I only hope that you can find even the smallest amount of comfort in the knowledge that our hearts are going out to you as you have been unfairly forced to deal with the sobering and harsh reality that your starting quarterback is a complete and utter moron.

GENERATION Y: Newest fashion trend: baring it all

I don't often feel compelled to give a shout-out to the fashion masses. First of all, I am guilty of more than a few fashion offenses myself and secondly, I am usually able to ignore what's "hip" and "trendy" with little effort. However, recent events have caused me some concern over the direction of fashion in the women's department.

While scrolling through the news Web sites one morning to pass the time, an article caught my eye: "Wisconsin Farmer Plans Hitler Memorial.

'PHIL'OSOPHY: Soccer continues to flop in the States

I will admit that I am not much of a soccer fan. Going into the World Cup four years ago, I only knew four things about soccer: Pele, David Beckham, Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" goal (look it up on Wikipedia) and the futility of the United States in the sport.

OUR VIEW: Un-cluster

Students attend liberal arts colleges like Ball State University for many reasons. One stands true for most: the opportunity to gain new experiences and learn more about a wide range of topics. By establishing clustered residence halls and isolating students within their intended majors, the university runs the risk of restricting students from this opportunity.

A newscaster reporting on the address later told the rest of the story: We're addicted to cars. Not only do we suffer from car addiction, we also have a taste for gas-guzzling SUVs, Hummers and semitrailers.
