BASEBALL: BSU set for crucial MAC series

If the Ball State University baseball team can get its third consecutive series sweep to begin the Mid-American Conference season, the winning streak put up by the 2006 team that won the conference tournament will be eclipsed. The Cardinals (18-9, 6-0 MAC) have won 10 consecutive games and need one win to match the 11-game win streak made by the 2006 squad.

As the Ball State University men's tennis team plays rival Western Michigan University on Saturday, the match will mean one thing to senior Danny Vidal. "It's all about revenge," Vidal said. "They got the best of us the last three times we've played. Both sides know this match is for the [Mid-American Conference] championship.

TRACK AND FIELD: Cards enter second meet encouraged, discouraged

Instead of feeling comfortable having the first outdoor meet of the season under its belt, the Ball State University track and field team is troubled by a series of injuries as it enters Friday's Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. Head coach Randy Heisler said last weekend's Mike Poelein Invitational, held at Purdue University, brought both encouraging successes and discouraging injuries.

Obama tickets run out

Despite taking names and phone numbers Wednesday for a waiting list for tickets, the Barack Obama campaign said, there will be no more tickets available for Saturday's speech. Genet Tseggai, communications director for Obama's Indiana campaign office, said everyone who received a ticket will be guaranteed entrance to Irving Gym.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: BSU's Stovall collects postseason awards

Ball State University senior guard Peyton Stovall was named second team all-senior all-American by the Lowe's Senior CLASS award. The teams were announced along with the recipient of the Lowe's Senior CLASS award during the NCAA Men's Final Four games. Shan Foster of Vanderbilt University was announced as the winner.

Gmail can now send Ball State messages

University Computing Services has been able to adjust its filtering system so users can send Gmail messages as Ball State University messages. Changes to the filter allowing Gmail to be used were put in place on Monday. Loren Malm, interim assistant vice president of information technology, said UCS filters looked at a part of the e-mail that users cannot see to detect if the message was from a spammer.

Dining encourages students to order food on Internet

When Dining initiated its online food ordering system Fall Semester it intended for the service to make lines shorter for Ball State University students wanting to get something to eat. Deb Hutton, manager of training for Dining, said that concept has not happened as well as Dining would like because of low marketing, but students are still using the service to get the quickest, most efficient food service possible.

Senators revote Faroh as president pro-tempore

A parliamentary procedure violation caused the Ball State University Student Government Association to revote on who would be its president pro-tempore during its Wednesday meeting. During the April 2 SGA meeting Jimmy Faroh was voted to take the position with 50 percent of the vote, or eight votes.

Stadium lot to get paved this summer

The Ball State University class of 2013 will be able to avoid one complaint of previous freshman classes: the football stadium parking lot. Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations, said paving of the stadium parking lot would begin in mid-May. Half of the lot will be completed by the end of July, he said.

Fraternity meets goal for blood drive

For students on their way to classes, a bus with workers from the Indiana Blood Center were in their way. Adam Cooper, committee service chairman for Theta Chi fraternity, said the fraternity planned at the beginning of Spring Semester to have a blood drive because each member was required to do four hours of community service.

With more than 500 people still standing outside, and 3,000 tickets already handed out, the Muncie Obama for America office ran out of tickets Wednesday evening. Quickly, the campaign workers grabbed notebook paper, pens and clipboards to sign the remaining crowd to a waiting list.

In an emergency meeting Wednesday, the Delaware County Clerks office reached a decision to fill the vacant position on the Board of Voter Registration to help with the influx of newly registered voters. However, Democrats and Republicans disagree on the necessity of filling the position.
