The odds of making a hole-in-one are about one in 12,000. Paige Esford made two the past two days. With one swing of her seven iron Monday, the Ball State University women's golfer sank her second hole-in-one in as many days at the Delaware Country Club.

The winning program at Ball State University is what attracted the Cardinals' new assistant soccer coach to the university. Michael Lovett, who was hired as Ball State's head coach March 3, announced the hiring of the former Xavier University assistant coach, Amber Alexander, as his assistant coach Monday.

BASEBALL: Cards win in extra innings

An Indiana State University baseball team that was 10-games-under .500 coming into Tuesday's game gave the Ball State University baseball team all it could handle. After the first five innings saw a total of two runs scored between the two teams, there was an offensive explosion.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Record-setting season continues for Cards

Entering this season Katherine Mowat had won two tournaments in her three years as the coach of the Ball State University women's golf team. With the completion of the Cardinal Classic Monday at the Delaware Country Club, Mowat's Cardinals have won three invitationals in the last month.

Position made to oversee $235 million

The organization that manages $235 million for the university created a position to oversee that money's investment. Thomas Heck, the vice president for operations and treasurer, will be the Ball State University Foundation's first chief investment officer.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State in control after first day at home

A special moment was made more special for Paige Esford Sunday by playing in a home tournament. The Ball State University sophomore got a hole-in-one on the par-3, 14th hole, the first of her career. "That was a pretty special moment, I'm not going to lie," Esford said.

Students build box town on University Green

About 150 Ball State University students endured 40-degree temperatures and strong winds as they slept under duct-taped boxes on University Green to promote awareness of poor living conditions in other regions of the world. Senior Ngofeen Mputubwele, a political science major, said he organized the "Displace Me" event for his senior thesis.

While the 10-game win streak was snapped for the Ball State University baseball team, a different streak was extended. In its first two series of the Mid-American Conference, Ball State played Sunday's game with a chance to get a sweep, but this weekend the Cardinals were on the opposite end of the spectrum.

After returning every offensive starter from last year's team, the Ball State University football team had few questions this offseason regarding its starting personnel on that side of the ball. However, one of the priorities coach Brady Hoke placed on the offense during spring practice was to establish a reliable third and fourth receiving option, behind wide receiver Dante Love and tight end Darius Hill.

In the Cardinals path today is Indiana State University. The Sycamores will come to Ball Diamond sporting a 10-20 record and will look to snap a three-game losing streak.

SOFTBALL: Team splits games during weekend

With a series split against Miami University to end the first half of Mid-American Conference play, the Ball State University softball team feels well about its standing in the conference. Ball State (27-21, 5-5 MAC) beat Miami (16-18, 7-3 MAC) 3-1 Sunday after losing its first game of the weekend 1-0 to the RedHawks Saturday.

After listening to a crowd screaming his name at Ball State University on Saturday, Sen. Barack Obama said he would be back to Muncie before the May 6 Indiana primary. "We wanted to do a town hall [meeting] today," Obama said. "but we also want to do a big-arena rally, so we are going to try to come back.

FOOTBALL: Offense struggles on goal-line plays

When Ball State University linebacker Spain Cosby returned a Tanner Justice interception to inside his team's five-yard line, it seemed the score of Saturday's spring scrimmage was about to turn ugly. Despite a 23-0 victory for the Cardinal team, which teamed the starting offense with the second-string defense, Cosby's pick failed to produce points.

BASEBALL: Benbow wins player of the week award

For the third consecutive week a Ball State University baseball player has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. Following Ryan Chenoweth and Dean Anna is outfielder Kory Benbow, who won the award Monday. The sophomore went 10-17 at the plate with two home runs, 11 runs and 10 RBIs in four games last week.

50 attend letter writing

David Hentz, freshman graphic arts management major, said he wished more students would get involved in the community and become advocates. "More people, more voice, more change," he said. Students had a chance to advocate public policy issues Saturday when 50 students wrote 250 letters to government officials.
