Educational technology instructor Kina Cunningham was talking to friends near an elevator in McKinley Parking Garage when three middle-school-aged children walked by carrying what appeared to be a cinder block. A few minutes later, Cunningham and her two friends heard a thump come from the top of the parking structure, she said.

Project teaches students how zoos work

This semester zoology and biology students were involved in an immersion learning class with the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo to create videos for displays and do research that benefited the zoo. Professor of Biology Gary Dodson said the immersion project was aimed at helping students become involved and learning how zoos work.

Student's video wins electric car

Pedestrians on campus can see a new electric car zip across the university because a Ball State University student won a scholarship contest. Junior architecture major Jagjeet Singh Chahal received a $1,000 scholarship and a 100 percent electric car for Ball State during the university's Earth Day celebration Tuesday on University Green.

No decision made on retrial

More than two months after plaintiff's attorneys filed for a retrial, a U.S. District Court judge is still deciding on the fate of the McKinney v. Duplain civil case. According to the U.S. District Court Clerk's Office, Judge Richard Young had made no formal decision as of Wednesday afternoon whether the trial, which has cost Ball State University more than $1 million thus far, will go back to court.

Cleaning crews work to keep cigarette butts off ground

More than a month after Ball State University implemented its smoking ban, administrators say enforcement has gone smoothly, but a new concern has arisen for smokers and the university - cleanliness of smoking areas. Thomas Morrison, associate vice president for human resources, said one of the main reasons the policy was instituted was the cigarette debris that covered parts of campus.

Student Center renovations to begin in June

As Ball State University seniors prepare for commencement, many staff members working in L.A. Pittenger Student Center are preparing to temporarily move out of the building following graduation to make room for renovations. Bruce Morgan, director of the Student Center and programs, said Monday that Parking Services, Student Legal Services, International Programs and all the programming offices, such as Late Nite and University Programs Board, will move their offices elsewhere on campus to clear room for the first of two phases of the renovation scheduled to begin in June.

BASEBALL: BSU bats get back on track

The Ball State University offense got its groove back as it beat Xavier University 14-4 Tuesday. The Cardinals (22-14, 7-5 Mid-American Conference) collected 20 hits in the game and scored in all but one inning. In the three games against Central Michigan University last weekend, Ball State had 21 hits.

SOFTBALL: Cardinals rally for late victory

When Eastern Illinois University came up to bat in the eighth inning of game two Tuesday with a runner at second, it used a bunt to sacrifice the runner to third base. Ball State University pitcher Elizabeth Milian then retired the Panthers' next two batters to strand the runner at third.

BSU denies Hillel event on campus

The first request for an exemption from the smoking ban has been denied, causing the Ball State University Hillel to move its annual hookah night to Moe's Tavern on Tuesday night. Co-president Lindsay Gross said Hillel, the Jewish organization on campus, knew the smoking ban would be a problem for its hookah night fundraiser.

Hookah night hits Village

Matisyahu, a Hasidic reggae artist, played loudly from the speakers in the bottom level of Mo's Tavern on Tuesday night as the Ball State Hillel played host to its third-annual hookah night. More than 150 people attended the event, which featured more than 10 flavors of shisha for attendees to chose from.
