THINK TO EXIST: Fun, studying in moderation is best for all

Back when I was a freshman two years ago I spent the majority of my time in my residence hall studying or staring at my wall. Lame, huh? This year, however, I finally moved off campus and made an attempt to be more active and outgoing. I certainly have, but I still make sure I live a balanced life.

Third slate approved to run, changes name

Students have three slates to choose from in this year's Student Government Association election after University Coalition, formerly Cardinal Coalition, found replacements for an ineligible member and another and got approval from the Elections Board. Elections Board Sheriff Nicole Akey said William Garnes and Damon Clevenger, former treasurer and secretary candidates respectively, were replaced by sophomore elementary education major Derrick Stalbaum, running for treasurer, and junior public relations and French major Megan Veit, running for secretary.

Dance Marathon hides deeper attachment to contributers

Chelsea Backus is a believer in dancing for a cause. Backus began her journey to become the president of Ball State University Dance Marathon at Bishop Chatard High School. She began as a dancer, then became involved in the organizational process. "I got a call in the spring of 2007 saying they were revamping their program at Ball State," she said.

MEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals split weekend matches

After winning the doubles point, the Ball State University men's tennis team had the momentum it needed to pull off an upset victory, but it did not happen as Michigan State University took five of the six singles matches for a 5-2 victory Saturday. Ball State went on to defeat Valparaiso University 7-0 in the night cap.

Tyrone Malik Cato rode along with Cpl. Matt Gaither during his normal Saturday night Muncie Gras rounds. Even while on his rounds during the slow night of Saturday's Muncie Gras celebration, Cpl. Matt Gaither still performs his usual protocol as if there were danger around every corner.

SOFTBALL: Cards win two of five at invitational

The Ball State University softball team started the season with a pair of wins in the Georgia Softball Classic this weekend. The team went 2-3 during the course of the three-day invitational defeating the University of North Carolina-Greensboro Friday and IUPUI Sunday.

Black Dance and Fashion Showcased In Pruis

Pruis Hall took a fantastic voyage Saturday, taking everyone in the event through the history of Black dance and style step-by-step. Back in Black: The Fuzion presented a progression of Black dance and fashion of the 70s, 80s and 90s with traditional modeling and dances from each time period.

Celebrating Muncie Gras

Thousands gathered on a two block stretch of Walnut Street to pretend it was Bourbon Street. Several tents with dance floors, bars and disc jockeys encouraged the crowd to go crazy. Yet the night was relatively tame.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Second half woes do not prevent Cardinals' victory

The pattern has been pretty simple the past two games for the Ball State University men's basketball team: strength in the first half, weakness in the second half. The Cardinals traveled to the University of Toledo on Wednesday and took a 33-26 lead going into halftime before their second-half defense sputtered in a 71-67 loss to the Rockets.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Cards ready to play in historic season-opening tourney

The Ball State University women's golf team will look to get off to a great start in the spring season this weekend at the largest invitational in NCAA history. Ball State will compete in the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, which is a tournament of 46 teams, beginning Sunday.

BASEBALL: Cards leave with disappointing split

A 14-7 loss on Sunday left a bad taste for the Ball State University baseball team after its opening-weekend series with Furman University. The Cardinals split the four-game series, losing 4-3 in 10 innings on Friday and sweeping Saturday's doubleheader. Ball State won the first game 9-7 in 11 innings and 14-4 in the nightcap.
