Indiana Pacer's representatives will visit Ball State University Dec. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to promote College Night to students.A Pacers Fan Van will be parked between the Teachers College and the Arts and Journalism Building.

SGA senators reflect on semester achievements

Ball State University's Student Government Association met for the final senate meeting of 2009 to discuss the current position of the slate's platform.Some of the points on the platform update included the hours in Bracken Library being successfully extended, Parking Services agreeing not ticket cars during Family Weekend and Homecoming Weekend and streaming live for the first time on SGA's Web site.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State defeats host Indiana State 68-63

Leading the way for the Cardinals (3-3) was sophomore center JarrodJones with a game-high-tying 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Freshmanguard Jauwan Scaife had a career-high-tying 14 points, while sophomoreguard Randy Davis had 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State falls to Wisconsin-Green Bay by 20

The Ball State University women's basketball team dropped its second straight game Thursday night, falling to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay 83-63.Even with her team going up against an undefeated Green Bay team that is receiving votes in the Associated Press and Coaches' polls, coach Kelly Packard believes the game could have been closer had her team finished the game strong.

Spotlight shines on Darfur

Many have stepped up to speak out on behalf of the Darfuri people: President Barack Obama, Olympian speed skater Joey Cheek and now Ball State University theater major Alyce Householter. Householter is the co-director of Ball State's production of "In Darfur," a Winter Miller play chronicling the fictional experiences of a New York journalist who travels to Darfur to report on a genocide she's not sure she believes is true.

Honors class to donate $10,000 to local nonprofits

History professor Greg Witkowski's honors class has the task of distributing $10,000 to nonprofit organizations in Delaware County.The class will give a presentation about their donations at 3 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Pineshelf Room of the L.A. Pittenger Student Center.

No one hurt in college classroom shooting in Va.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — In a scene reminiscent of other school shootings, a Northern Virginia Community College teacher spotted a weapon and ducked to avoid gunfire. Students ran from the classroom building while others barricaded themselves inside, piling desks in front of doors.This time, though, no one was hurt.

ANDERSON, Ind. — A proposal to consolidate Anderson's two high schools is drawing widespread opposition in the central Indiana city.Hundreds of opponents jammed a School Board meeting Tuesday night, a week before the board is expected to vote on the plan.

Hypnotist Frederick Winters will be performing tonight at Ball State University.Winters was named Entertainer of the Year by Campus Activities Magazine in 2006, the same year he last visited Ball State.

University Police looking into armed robbery near Noyer Complex

Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said Ball State University Police are still searching for a suspect in a robbery that took place near the intersection of McKinley and Neely avenues.No injuries were reported, but a purse was stolen in the incident, which occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Monday just north of the Architecture Building.

Interstate-69, state, U.S. highways and county roads are wet with scattered slick spots, and there are strong winds from the west. Animal homes sought by closing Muncie shelter

Homes are being sought for dozens of pets as Muncie officials prepare to close the city's animal shelter at year's end.Mayor Sharon McShurley decided to close the shelter after City Council budget cuts for next year that she says would leave it understaffed. McShurley says she hopes that none of the shelter's 75 animals will need to be euthanized.

This reviewer is only human just like the rest of campus, meaning I had to undertake final projects and other productions over the weekend. Thus, I was unable to get out to theaters this weekend. Fear not, though, I still am offering bits of criticism on what to check out and see this Winter Break, once finals begin winding down.

OUR VIEW: Snowy days

In eight days, this semester will be finished, terminado, fini, beendet. For most, it'll be done earlier. The problem is, for the majority of our classes, events in these next eight days are going to determine 25 percent or more of our grades. What may have been a good grade for 16 weeks can be ruined by one bad test or project.

University officials will determine tuition increase after commision meeting

Ball State university officials are leery to comment on how the funding cuts for Indiana state universities will potentially affect next year's tuition.Director of Communications Kevin Burke said the university should have a better understanding of how the funding cuts could affect tuition after the Higher Education Commission's meeting Friday at IUPUI.

Creative meals fill community needs

For a while the Harvest Soup Kitchen primarily served soup, and people weren't using the available community resources well enough to adequately feed people walking through the lines, said Lois Altman, Ball State University professor and director of the Hospitality Food Management Program.So since 2006 she saw the potential to do more: she's come to lead a group of volunteers she calls the "Friday crew" to make the best of what's donated and available in the kitchen. On one recent Friday the crew prepared baked squash, corn bread and chicken with wild rice.
