MOVIES WITH MICHAEL: Upcoming summer blockbusters ...

(05/19/14 4:47am)

Large, dark rooms full of the smell of popcorn and the sounds of the newest blockbusters is what summer means to me. And if this summer is anything like last year, then I’m definitely in for a treat.

Homecoming queen nominee talks about being transgender

(08/17/13 4:42am)

Editor's note: This Q & A is not an endorsement for the title of Homecoming Queen. For 73 years, Ball State has been crowning Homecoming kings and queens from student and greek organizations on campus. This year is bound to be different from any other before because a transgendered student was nominated for the position of Homecoming queen for the first time. Since the announcement of the nominees in the summer, the Daily News sat down with junior telecommunications major Natalie Roman to find out what it’s like to be a transgendered student at Ball State, as well as what her nomination means for her and Ball State.

MOVIES WITH MICHAEL: "World War Z"

(06/24/13 7:00am)

Zombies are everywhere in Marc Forster’s new apocalyptic thriller, “World War Z.” And there’s nothing that can keep these terrifyingly animalistic creatures from swarming the streets of the biggest cities in the world, changing everyone they come in contact with.

MOVIES WITH MICHAEL: "Man of Steel"

(06/17/13 5:48am)

With the rise of the superhero culture in today’s age, the absence of a contemporary “Superman” story has been far too noticeable. DC Comics has seemed to put no real effort into creating a universe where its characters can come together in a manner similar to that of Marvel’s Avengers.

MOVIES WITH MICHAEL: "After Earth"

(06/03/13 5:50am)

M. Night Shyamalan hasn’t had the best track record when it comes to directing movies. The last movie he directed was “The Last Airbender” in 2010 and, while the movie already had a built-in audience and crazy high budget, under Shyamalan’s direction, it flopped. I really think the last Shyamalan movie I enjoyed was “Signs,” and that was in 2002.

MOVIES WITH MICHAEL: "Arrested Development"

(05/30/13 5:41am)

After being gone for seven years, “Arrested Development” has returned for a fourth season. I am one of the lucky few who didn’t have to wait all seven years for its return because I only got into the show my freshman year. Nevertheless, I was very much excited for the new season.

MOVIES WITH MICHAEL: Sequel satisfies Trekkie standard

(05/20/13 7:08am)

I never watched the TV series, the only knowledge I had of the old “Star Trek” is from pop culture and television references. And despite my lack of knowledge, when “Star Trek” came out in 2009, I couldn’t have been more excited. I had always enjoyed the idea of “Star Trek”; I just never had the time to get heavily into it.
