Crafted out of cigarette boxes, the letters I-M-P-U-R-E dangle from a bulletin board in the Art and Journalism Building, forming a statement with which the members of a Ball State University Business Fellows group can agree. Lax enforcement of the current university smoking policy and health concerns have led the group, including faculty members Jeff Clark and his wife, Susan, along with nine students, to work to make Ball State a smoke-free campus.
Since August 2005, Ball State University has had a policy in place that restricts smoking within 30 feet of any university building. The policy also states that "conspicuous signs" should be posted on all doors involved in the restriction. Anyone who has walked by a smoker while entering a building understands why enforcing this policy is a difficult endeavor at best.
In Orlando, it is illegal to feed the homeless. Faced with the question of what to do with the rising homeless population in its city, Orlando has fought to control the surging problem through legislation. A law banning panhandling was struck down in the courts, the city has fought to make homeless people carry special ID cards and now an official ordinance says those wishing to feed the homeless in a public place must have permission from the city to do so.
The national champions celebrated a victorious return to Indianapolis on Monday. Despite cold weather, thousands of fans waited through a two- hour delay for the parade to begin. A formal ceremony took place in the RCA Dome where players spoke to fans.

Senior Derek Brewington, whose friends and family have not heard from him in more than a week, stayed at a New York City hostel, university spokesman Layne Cameron said. Derek's father, Dan Brewington, said he spoke to a man in charge of the hostel, who confirmed that 22-year-old Derek Brewington had been there for the past eight days.
Senior Tamelca Lewis was born on the last day of 1982 in Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica. She transferred to Ball State University from the University College of the Caribbean to begin her first season as a sophomore. In high school, she placed fourth in the triple jump in the 2005 Jamaican National Championship and earned a Certificate of Excellence in 2001.
For the first time since Fall 1998, Ball State University is adding a fraternity. This semester, Delta Sigma Phi fraternity joined the Interfraternity Council and will begin recruiting its first Ball State members. Ben Breunig, Delta Sigma Phi director of expansion in Indianapolis, said the Ball State IFC contacted the chapter about two years ago to come to the university.

Senior E.J. Francis was drinking with some friends on a Saturday night in 2005 when his friends decided to go to a fraternity party, and Francis volunteered to drive them. On the way to the party, a University Police Department officer pulled over Francis and his friends.
As of Sunday night, police had no new information on missing Ball State University student Derek Brewington, university officials said. Brewington, a senior, was last seen by his roommate around 11 a.m. on Jan. 27 in their FIJI fraternity house. University officials said Friday that they had a strong lead on where Brewington might have gone.
