Sponsors expect 300 at day-long music festival

Students and Muncie residents can rock out for nine straight hours this weekend at the University Square parking lot. WCRD promotions manager Jade Sullivan said The Launching Pad and WCRD are hosting the first Village Music Fest from 2 to 11 p.m Saturday. Governor's RV to visit campus for registration drive

Gov. Mitch Daniel's campaign RV will visit Ball State University where campaign staff will work with a student organization to register voters Friday. Derek Trovillion, RV coordinators for Daniel's campaign office, said RV1 will be in the parking lot near the Art and Journalism Building and Teachers College from about noon until 5 p.


Obama to speak at Anderson High School Saturday

Sen. Barack Obama will visit Anderson on Saturday, the presidential candidate's campaign office announced Thursday. Obama will speak at Anderson High School where he will have a town hall meeting. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and the event begins at 2:15 p.m.


College Bowl team heads to national event for first time

Instead of studying for final exams, five Ball State University students will spend the weekend in St. Paul, Minn., where they will be putting their knowledge of trivia to the test. Ball State's College Bowl team will compete Saturday and Sunday at the national level at Macalester College for the first time in the competition's 55-year history.

Students can vote before semester ends

With the May 6 Indiana primary less than two weeks away, Ball State University students who registered to vote in Delaware County can cast their ballots early this year. A new state law, in its first application, requires county clerk's offices to open 30 days prior to election day for early voting.

North Hall construction to begin in a few weeks to meet 2010 completion date

Fall 2010 will not only bring new faces to Ball State University, but also a new residence hall: North Hall. North Hall, which will be located across from Studebaker West, is on its way to making its first appearance on campus. In order to meet the scheduled August 2010 completion date, on-site construction will begin in a few weeks.

When Amber Williams' high school track coach told her to try hurdles one day in practice, her reaction wasn't exactly positive. "'No, because I don't want to fall on my face,'" Williams said, recalling her response. "You always have that initial fear at first.


SOFTBALL: Offense, defense struggle

Too many errors and too few hits led to two losses for the Ball State University softball team at Ohio State University Wednesday. The Buckeyes (29-20, 5-11 Big Ten) limited the Cardinals (31-27, 6-8 Mid-American Conference) to three hits in each game of Wednesday's doubleheader while Ball State committed three errors to lead to the 2-1 and 7-0 losses.


SOFTBALL: BSU to play crucial games

This weekend will be one of the most important in the Ball State University softball careers of seniors Abby Gross and Amanda Pick. With two weekends remaining in the season, Ball State (31-27, 6-8 Mid-American Conference) is in sixth place in the MAC standings.



WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards sign Burris player

A women's volleyball player from Burris Laboratory School signed a national letter of intent to play for Ball State University Wednesday. Christie Waters is the fifth player to join the Cardinals for next season, joining Jennifer Boyd from Evans City, Pa., Brittany McGinnis from Fraser, Mich.

The last time the Ball State University women's tennis team matched up against Miami University on March 22, the RedHawks claimed a 7-0 shutout in which the Cardinals scrapped up one win at the No. 3 doubles spot. Head coach Kathy Bull said when her team plays Miami Friday in the Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinals at the University at Buffalo, the Cardinals will look to play more focused and smarter singles.


BASEBALL: Cards try to hold on

Fighting to stay in the top half of the Mid-American Conference West Division, the Ball State University baseball team begins a three-game series at Western Michigan University Friday afternoon. The Cardinals (22-15, 7-5 MAC) are in third place in the MAC West, tied with Central Michigan University, and need to avoid being swept by the Broncos to stay ahead of them in the division.


WOMEN'S GOLF: BSU is confident for conference meet

Entering the Mid-American Conference tournament, coach Katherine Mowat has never been more confident in her team. The Ball State University women's golf team is entering the conference meet as the winner of three of its last four events after winning two events in Mowat's three previous year's as the team's coach.
