Letterman Lecture Series reflects on emerging media's role in past election

Kathleen Hall Jamieson, professor of communications and director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, will discuss "Emerging Media and the path to the Oval Office" at 7:30 p.m. today. Jamieson said the advent of the Internet and emerging media has changed not only how candidates for public office campaign, but also the very nature of politics itself.


SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cardinals expect better performance

As freshmen in high school, most people dreamed of the day they would be seniors, until graduation day when it all came to an end. The same can be said for the seniors of the Ball State University women's swimming and diving team, who will compete collegiality for the last time this weekend at the Mid-American Conference Championship.

The Health Center gives away more condoms throughout February and around Valentine's Day than any other time of year. Planned Parenthood and the Health Center, which offers students five free condoms per day, try to make condom events fun for college-aged students in an attempt to educate them about safe sex.

Welcome Week Leaders needed for next year

The Office of Orientation is accepting applications for Welcome Week Leaders for Ball State University's 2009-10 school year. According to a press release, Welcome Week Leaders will help freshmen move into residence halls and become familiar with campus services and activities and promote and assist at the week's events.

Gegory Mixon will be presenting his new publication "The Atlanta Riot: Race, Class and Violence in a New South City at 4 p.m. in Burkhardt Building.


BASEBALL: Freshman named MAC Player of the Week

Freshman first baseman Ian Nielsen is the only non-senior to be named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. Nielsen went 10-17 in the Cardinals opening series against Furman University.



Record Time IV challenges musicians

Musicians from Ball State University and all over the world will be working tirelessly to write and record an album's worth of material this week. Midnight on Monday marked the beginning of Record Time IV, a project started three years ago by senior Ball State music technology majors Dan Waldkirch and Mike Weber.

Brackett motivates Ball State

A simple bathroom break in the third grade became something extraordinary for Indianapolis Colts defensive captain Gary Brackett. The Office of Student Life and the Multicultural Center cosponsored Brackett's speech in Pruis Hall on Wednesday night. More than 500 people heard him describe the adversity he's faced in his life, his hardest times and how he came to realize his dream.



WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: BSU looks to continue hot streak

After an exciting win against Central Michigan University on Sunday, the Ball State University women's basketball team stayed in Michigan to take on Eastern Michigan University at 7 p.m. tonight in the Convocation Center. Ball State head coach Kelly Packard said the single day between games isn't something they've had to experience much.

I was walking through Robert Bell last week when I heard someone in the hallway lecturing a friend on interpretation of the Constitution with respect to religion. As I walked past, he was saying that, if one reads the writings of the founding fathers, one discovers they never intended for the First Amendment to prevent religion from interfering with the state.
