WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State stutters in loss to Butler

The loss for the Cardinals put them at 5-7 as the program now will defend a MAC title for the first time in program history. Ball State begins league play on Wednesday at home against Western Michigan University.


MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State ranked No. 11 in preseason coaches poll

 Ball State was ranked No. 11 in the preseason top 15 coaches poll released Tuesday night — its highest preseason ranking in seven years. The Cardinals were one of three MIVA teams ranked in the preseason poll. Ohio State finished ahead of Ball State at No. 10, and Lewis tied with UC Santa Barbara at No. 14.



SCENE SELECTION: 'Up in the Air' soars as best Reitman film

George Clooney stars in his third film released in two months – "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "The Men Who Stare at Goats" being the others – as Ryan Bingham in "Up in the Air." Ryan travels the country as a consultant in charge of firing other companies' employees. Spending the majority of the year in hotels and racking up frequent flyer miles isn't exactly a glamorous job by any means. He enjoys and lives for traveling, but eventually he faces the changing economic climate.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Jones named co-MAC West Player of the Week

Jones had a double-double in the Cardinals' (4-5) 59-45 win over North Carolina Central Dec. 21, scoring 16 points and collecting 10 rebounds. The double-double was Jones' fifth in his career and second in his past three games.


ATHLETICS: Ball State athletics logo celebrates 20th birthday

After finishing one of most successful men's basketball season in Ball State history and with a 30-year-old athletics logo unable to be registered for profit, the university decided to make a change to the visual representation of an entire athletics department. Twenty years later, off the heels of the most successful football season in school history, few doubt that Ball State is not regretting that decision to go out with the old, and in with the new.


Ball State looking at 'everything' to balance $15.2 million in cuts

Randy Howard, vice president for Business Affairs, said it's too early to say exactly what will be cut from within Ball State after the Indiana Commission for Higher Education announced $15.2 million in funding cuts to the university.Howard said administrators would make sure to not impact two specific areas: the educational experience of students and the university's Strategic Plan, which champions immersive learning opportunities.
