Reality Check

Heartland Film Festival: ‘Weed the People’ makes an emotional, compelling case for legal cannabis

'Weed the People' is a well researched documentary that is very well  made and heartfelt. All of the children and their families shown in the  film perfectly emphasize the film's stance and bring a human component  to the controversial subject of legal cannabis. The film succeeds in  making a compelling case while also calling viewers to action in a  non-manipulative way.

Heartland Film Festival 2018: ‘Eva’ shows the redemptive power of forgiveness from someone who has every right not to give it

'Eva' is an amazing film for the people unfamiliar with Eva Mozes Kor’s life story. The storytelling is balanced, heartfelt, and the breadth of interviewees is staggering. Though the editing can make the film’s pacing feel a bit slow, this documentary communicates its message with finesse. Eva Kor is an astounding person with an outlook on life that is expertly conveyed through this film about her life.

Input 2 S5E3 - Michael Myers Strikes Again

Input 2 continues to explore the deep roots of the Halloween film genre. More specifically, how the original Halloween movie created many of the horror tropes today. But how does the new Halloween sequel hold up to the first one? Does Michael Myers still strike fear into the hearts of viewers? Tune in to this week’s episode of Input 2 to find out more!

Heartland Film Festival: ‘When Jeff Tried to Save the World’ is a high score for indie filmmaking

‘When Jeff Tried to Save the World’ is a fascinating character study set  against a backdrop of faded neon and gutter-balls. The cinematography  and set design is humble, yet charming, and the ensemble cast absolutely  knocks it out of the park. Despite being rooted heavily in a nostalgia  (of sorts) for the bowling alley of yesteryear, this film couldn’t be  more relevant for our generation and the one before it. No matter how  many quarters this one eats, Jeff is worth the price to play.

Horror films like 'Halloween' only come once a decade or so

David Green’s 2018 Halloween remedies this in the simplest way possible: by pretending everything after the original Halloween movie doesn’t exist, and you know what? I wish that were true, because the 2018 Halloween is the perfect sequel to the original.
