Students from Ball State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance recently received notable recognition in the national round of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) competition according to a press release from the university.

In addition to this recognition, both students—seniors Myles Keys and Elia Livovich—earned highly competitive fellowships at the renowned Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Connecticut for Summer 2025.

“It’s rare enough for one student to make it to the national round of KCACTF—this year, we had two. And not only did Elia and Myles reach that stage, they both won. That’s a first for us—and a reflection of their incredible talent and preparation,” said Matt Reeder, associate professor of directing and Shakespeare in the Department of Theatre and Dance via the release. “Their achievement also speaks to the strength of our directing and stage management programs, and the dedicated mentorship of our faculty in the College of Fine Arts.”

Livovich is one of only two national recipients of the KCACTF Stage Management Fellowship. Livovich will serve as a resident stage manager at the O’Neill Center, supporting productions including puppetry, playwrights, music theater, and cabaret during its conferences throughout June and July.

Keys was named a national Stage Directors and Choreographers Directing Initiative winner in recognition of his excellence in collegiate directing. He will also participate in a prestigious fellowship, in which he can gain hands-on experience while working with professional theater artists this Summer.

Both fellowships offer immersive opportunities for these emerging theatre professionals to develop their craft alongside some of the country’s leading artists and creatives in one of America’s most iconic development centers for new works.

“Elia and Myles’ successes are a testament to the discipline, determination, professionalism, and extraordinary vision of these two young emerging artists—and are vivid examples of what can happen when passion, enthusiasm, and drive are coupled with hard work,” Prof. Reeder said in the release.
