No matter if you are living in a dorm, apartment, or a house, one thing everyone wants to achieve is making their place of residency feel like home. There may not be a better time of year than the holiday season to help get that feeling. Whether it’s tree decorating, cookie baking, or watching holiday movies in your PJs as the world around you gets covered in a snowy blanket, here are some tools of the trade on how to get that perfect holiday home.

Setting the scene

Dorm room decorating may seem challenging at first glance due to limited space, but you can do a lot with little when it comes to decorating. When it comes to the classic Christmas tree, it’s a good idea for dorm room residents to look into artificial trees around 3 or 4 feet tall. You can still decorate your tree and find a nice spot for it somewhere in the corner, there is little to no mess, and it won’t take up a lot of space. For people living in apartments or houses, artificial trees are still a great idea for their lack of mess and maintenance. For those who need a real tree, there are plenty of great tree farms and stores around Muncie that supply them during the season. For all other holiday decorations like candles, little Santa and elves, and all things holly and jolly, stores like Hobby Lobby, Joann’s, and Michaels are great options to deck any and all halls.

Festivities and Activities

It wouldn’t be the holidays without doing a few cheerful activities. Eggnog and cookie decorating are staples of the season, as well as filling your home with enough holiday music to make even Mariah Carey blush. At the end of the night when the only thing you can see out your window is the ground slowly filling with snow, and the festive lights glowing, it's time to pop in that favorite holiday movie. Grab the hot chocolate and whatever figgy pudding is, and dive into all the classics—as long as they include Home Alone and Elf.

Better together

Saving the most important aspect of the holiday season till the end, the holidays are meant to be spent with the ones most important to you. For many, this is the first holiday season being spent without being around your family. That does not mean this holiday season should be spent alone, all the fun activities like decorating your tree, building gingerbread houses, and watching Will Ferrell wearing green spandex and act like an Elf are all better with your friends. So, this Holiday season in what may be your new home, make it feel like home and do all the festivities with the ones closest to you.
