Ball State finished 15th out of 16 at the Colonel Classic in Richmond, Kentucky.
The Ball State’s five-person lineup consisted of freshman Madelin Boyd, freshman Jasmine Driscoll, freshman Sarah Gallagher, sophomore Payton Bennett and graduate student Peyton Broce.
Missing from the lineup was junior Kiah Parrott. Head coach Cameron Andry said there is no timetable for her injury and is getting treatment currently. Andry said the Zoysia fairways and the greens were good but not great, and that being back in the Midwest for a tournament was a little different. Going on to describe the conditions as compared to home conditions like The Players Clubs and Delaware Country Club.
Monday - Round One
Monday would be the highest round of the tournament for Ball State, shooting 319 and being in last after the first 18.
The round was led by Boyd and Driscoll who both shot a 6-over-par score of 78.
Bennett would be the third best with a 9-over-par 81 followed closely by Gallagher and Broce with their 10-over-par scores of 82.
“We did not get off to a very good start,” Andry said. “We didn't play well in the middle or at the end of that first round. We struggled the whole way through. I think some of that is the nature of golf. I think some of it was probably for whatever reason we just weren't quite ready to go.”
Monday - Round Two
The Cardinals were able to drop 14 strokes from rounds one and two.
“I was proud of the way we battled back in the second round,” Andry said. “It wasn't great, but it was definitely better in the second round. We didn't have anybody throw in the towel and give up in any way. They know that that's simply not acceptable within our program, and I wouldn't expect anything different.”
Ball State was led by Bennett who dropped nine strokes from her first round, shooting a 2-over-par 74 in her second round.
Gallagher and Boyd both shot a 6-over-par 78 followed by Broce who posted a 9-over-par 81.
Driscoll had an impressive front nine score of 4-under-par with four birdies and no bogeys in her first nine holes. She would end the day shooting a 3-over-par 75.
Tuesday - Round Three
Driscoll led the Cardinals with her even-par 72, holes one through 10 were all pars and she finished with 12 pars.
Andry said Driscoll is someone who continues to get better and better as the season goes on. He said that she has been working on her short game which has helped her improve, but he still thinks she has a little bit more to go. He also said she is from tee to green is good and her driver is easily the best club in her bag.
Gallagher was second best with her 3-over-par 75 followed by Boyd with her 5-over-par 77.
Bennett shot a 6-over-par 78 and was followed by Broce who posted a 9-over-par 81.
The Cardinals will tee it up again for the Lady Jaguar Invitational on Apr. 15-16 at Plum Creek Golf Club.
“I really hope we can finish on a strong note at the IUPUI event,” Andry said. “I really feel like if we are at full strength and can go down there and play well that we can contend for a win there which would be a great thing to do heading into the MAC Championship.”
