Back again for their annual event, Ball State University’s Spectrum hosted their drag show, this year benefitting Muncie OUTreach.
This year’s theme was Mad Hatter, featuring six local and student performers: Aura Aurora, Aria Amethyst, Mx. Madness, Naomi DeFeirce, Ghastly, and King Kunt.
“It’s a place where people can come together and experience the culture and what it means to be within the LGBTQ+ community,” Spectrum Vice President MJ Butcher said. “Especially right now, when states are passing anti-drag bills, it’s uncertain in the future if we’ll get to host this event.”
The show’s profits this year all went to Muncie OUTreach, including the tips that the performers received during their parts of the show. Every dollar went to charity.
“I love Muncie OUTreach, Muncie OUTreach probably saved my life,” Ghastly, an archeology major, said. “I would do anything for this charity and for this nonprofit. I think that these kids deserve the world, and I will do everything I can to give it to them.”
Laura Janney, Executive Director of Muncie OUTreach attended the show.
“I love that Spectrum often partners with us and they always support us,” Janney said.
The performers were not only donating their profits to Muncie OUTreach, but they were also performing to represent what they are passionate about.
“This event represents the art form that is drag and also helps fundraise for a non-profit organization that helps benefit LGBT and Queer youth,” Aura Aurora said. “Just donating my time to showcase what I love and breath doing to also help some other people out and put smiles on people’s faces in the room.”
And that they did. With sets including Hannah Montana, Lady Gaga, and many more, the drag performers kept the audience engaged throughout the duration of the show.
“It was very inclusive and it shows that it’s not wrong to be different, even at a younger age,” 14-year-old attendee Maxx Miller said.

Delta will be on the road for its next contest against Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Shelbyville April 23 at 6 p.m. Muncie Central will travel to Muncie Burris for its next matchup, also April 23 at 6 p.m.
