MUNCIE, INDIANA — Ball State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) had their presidential debate tonight between candidates Skylar Ellis and Joseph Gassensmith. Both candidates got to showcase their views on their potential candidacy for this election.
In the opening statements, Skylar Ellis, says she wants to increase the power of our student voices, and overall grow SGA. Most importantly, she would, “like to heavily stay connected with students.”

Skylar wants students to, “feel like they can reach out to me.”
One project Skylar would like to implement would be adding a “purple loop” to campus busing.
This is a project that would connect the east and south neighborhoods to the north side of campus. It accesses a lot of the same areas as the blue loop. They are working to make sure that this would be an efficient and fast loop.
Joseph Gassensmith is another potential candidate running. He said in his opening statements, “he would make sure SGA stays involved with student organizations across campus.”
Skylar wants to make sure our campus, as well as SGA, is an inclusive and positive community.
“Something I would like to see change in the executive board is to increase more open communication,” said Gassensmith.
He says one project he is passionate for is by the name of “Beneficence Swipes.”
The Beneficence Swipes would donate unused/unwanted meal swipes to Ball State students in need across campus. SGA would work closely with other universities and Cardinal Kitchen to make this happen.
