Coming off of two straight home wins last weekend against Eastern Michigan, Ball State Women’s Volleyball (11-6, 3-2) knocked off another Mid-American Conference (MAC) rival Akron (4-13, 1-5) after a career night for third-year outside hitter Cait Snyder.
Snyder notched a new career-high for the Cardinals with 15 kills and tied her season-high on the defensive side of the ball with three blocks.
Despite losing the second set, the Cardinals had control throughout most of the match with an 11-point win in the first set and only allowing 20 combined points in the third and fourth sets en route to a four-set win (25-14, 24-26, 25-9, 25-11).
Ball State’s defense came in the form of 12 blocks, with six from fourth-year middle blocker Marie Plitt and four each from third-year middle blocker Lauren Gilliland and second-year setter Megan Wielonski.
Plitt finished third on the team in kills Friday with nine while fourth-year opposite Natalie Mitchem was second in between Snyder and Plitt with 10 kills on the offensive side of the ball.
Fourth-year libero Maggie Huber added 24 digs, a season-high with fourth-year outside hitter Natalie Risi notching 10 digs. Wielonski had 16 digs of her own along with 35 assists. Between the three, the Cardinals prevented 50 possible points from being scored by the Zips over the four sets.
Ball State returns to Worthen Arena Saturday evening in their Dig Pink Night against Buffalo.
