Coming into this NBA season, I think the divide between “contenders” and “pretenders” has never been more clearly defined. The Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets are probably the popular picks for who will be hoisting up the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy at the end of the season and it’s hard to disagree.

With a young talented core and a potential big three in Ja Morant, Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies could be scary this year. Not to mention their other big is the rebounding machine of Steven Adams. I think the Cavaliers' trade for Donovan Mitchell will become key to their success this season and he will lead them to the Finals but will eventually fall to the Grizzlies. The lights-out 3-point shooting of Desmond Bane could be the deciding factor.

I think this will be another competitive year of NBA Basketball, with it all ending in a great Finals where Giannis Antetokounmpo wins his second ring in three years. After another stellar performance last season and an even better playoff performance, I think Luka Doncic will be crowned MVP. It will be close between Doncic and Joel Embiid, who has finished second in MVP voting the past two years.

Clippers over Warriors in the Conference Finals in seven games

Last year, these NBA predictions didn’t quite go my way. Full disclosure, the NBA isn’t my favorite, or even second favorite professional sports league. That said, basketball has been deeply rooted in me for my entire life (shoutout dad and grandpa), so I will always pay attention. I believe this is the Boston Celtics’ year. Last season, they were knocking on the door of their 18th NBA Championship in franchise history, however, I believe they will achieve that feat this season.

Warriors over Clippers in the Conference Finals 4-0

If I didn't make it abundantly clear with my picks last year, I do not pay a whole lot of attention to the NBA. In fact, I think the NBA is the worst of the top five sports leagues. Yes, that is below the NHL and the MLS; it's just the worst. Either way, who knows? Maybe I get it spot on this year.

Finals: Celtics over Warriors 4-3

Most Valuable Player: Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics

Defensive Player of the Year: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks

Rookie of the Year: Jaden Ivey, Detroit Pistons

Sixth Man of the Year: Malcolm Brogden, Boston Celtics

Most Improved Player: Tyrese Haliburton, Indiana Pacers
