For five Delaware County High School Soccer programs, the 2022 regular season campaign began the evening of August 16. Daleville High School Coed Soccer and Delta High School Boys Soccer squared off, Yorktown High School Boys and Girls Soccer programs each picked up wins and Wapahani High School Boys Soccer & Muncie Central High School's Boys Soccer teams also made their debuts.
Daleville High School Coed Soccer V. Delta High School Boys Soccer
Two Delaware County High School Boys Soccer programs clashed in the first match of either of their respective seasons when the Delta Eagles defeated the Daleville Broncos 8-0 at home. For Delta, junior Brayden Stanley completed a hat trick, acounting for 37.5% of the Eagles eight points.
Other Delta athletes to score were senior Cody Dickin, senior Levi Griffis, senior Mason Lynn, junior Tyler Dillon and freshman Maddox Huffman.
The Eagles are scheduled to return to the field August 18, taking on Blackford High School Boys Soccer at 5 p.m at Blackford High School. The Broncos next contest is scheduled for August 23 against Wapahani High School Boys Soccer at 5 p.m. at Daleville High School.
Yorktown High School Girls Soccer V. Blackford High School Girls Soccer
Yorktown Girls Soccer kicked their season off with a 3-0 win over the Blackford Bruins on the road. After a 0-0 first half, filled with numerous stops by the Bruins' (Blackford) goalie, junior Faith Gephart, the Tigers got on the board early in the second half.
Three minutes into the second half, junior Eva Ward scored the first of Yorktown's trio of goals. Almost 10 minutes later, freshman Kylie Patton knocked in the second, as senior Lizzy Willis kicked in the third and final Tiger goal less than two minutes after Patton's.
Yorktown is scheduled to play in their home opener at 5:30 p.m. August 17 against Anderson High School Girls Soccer in Yorktown, Indiana.
Yorktown High School Boys Soccer V. Hamilton Heights High School Boys Soccer
Yorktown Boys Soccer played their first contest of the 2022 season on their home field, defeating the Hamilton Heights Huskies 2-0 after a goal in each half. Senior Jackson Furnish and junior Zach Wright provided the scoring from the Tigers.
The Tigers are set to return to the field August 18 at 5:30 p.m. against New Palestine High School Boys Soccer in at New Palestine High School.
Wapahani High School Boys Soccer V. Rushville Consolidated High School Boys Soccer
In their season opener, the Wapahani Raiders fell to the Rushville Lions 4-1 at home. Senior Nathan Nelson scored Wapahani's lone goal in the contest.
The Raiders are next scheduled to take the field against the Muncie Central High School Boys Soccer at 5 p.m. August 18 at Muncie Central.

Bearcat pitching struggles lead to Muncie Central loss at Delta in Delaware County baseball clash
By David Moore / YesterdayAt the end of the evening, it was the Eagles who ended their four-game skid as Delta took the victory against the Bearcats 16-1 in five innings. Delta will be on the road for its next contest against Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Shelbyville April 23 at 6 p.m. Muncie Central will travel to Muncie Burris for its next matchup, also April 23 at 6 p.m.
