May 25 Delaware County High School Sectional and Regional Roundup: Two sectional games finish late due to delays and three sectional/regional events are postponed

Five Delaware County Sectional or Regional events were set to take place May 25 and three have been officially postponed, while two have been delayed.

No. 3 in 2A Wapahani Baseball (19-4) was scheduled to face Lapel (14-7-1) May 25 at 8 p.m. at Frankton High School in Sectional 40’s first round. The game was delayed until approximately 9:15 p.m. where Wapahani eventually defeated Lapel 11-1 in five innings.

Wapahani senior Luke Wilmann hit a three-run home run in the first inning to set the tone for the contest and junior Gavin Lash hit a three-run shot of his own later on.The Raiders go on to face No. 6 in 2A Monroe Central (20-8) May 28 at 11 a.m.

Wapahani Softball (15-11) was scheduled to face Frankton (16-7) at 7:30 p.m. May 25 at Lapel High School in a semifinal contest in Sectional 40. Like the Raiders baseball game, theirs was delayed until approximately 9:15 p.m. as well, however, Wapahani softball experienced a different result.

Wapahani was down 7-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning and the Raiders put up three runs but it wasn't enough. Wapahani lost to the Eagles 7-3, putting their season to an end.

Delta Girl’s Tennis were in the middle of their Regional Championship event against Alexandria at Marion High School when lightning struck and rain followed, causing the event to be postponed. The only match to get in was No. 1 singles, as senior Gwyn Clark won that event before the delays and postponement. 

The rest of this event will take place May 26 at 4 p.m. If the event is outside, Marion High School will continue to host, however, if the event is inside, Greentown, Indiana will play host. 

Yorktown Baseball (16-10) was set to face Jay County (14-8)in their first round matchup of Sectional 24 at approximately 7:30 p.m. May 25 at Yorktown High School, however, this game was postponed as well. The game is tentatively scheduled to be made up May 26 at a time yet to be announced. 

Daleville Baseball (4-20) was set to face Southern Wells (6-14) in their first round matchup of Sectional 55 at Anderson Preparatory Academy at 5:30 p.m. May 25, but this game has been postponed in addition to most other Delaware County Sectional Baseball games set for May 25. The game is tentatively scheduled to be made up May 26 at a time yet to be announced.
