Ball State University Singers upcoming performance and new amphitheater announced

Ball State University Singers will perform at Carnegie Hall with a preview concert at Sursa Hall

The Ball State University (BSU) Singers have been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The University Singers are Indiana’s Official Goodwill Ambassadors and they will perform along with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and the Fort Hamilton High School Symphonic Band, in the May 29 Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) program, “English Masters: Britten & Howells.”

The show begins at 2 p.m. at Carnegie’s Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. Tickets can be purchased on the Carnegie Hall website.

One week before their performance at Carnegie Hall, the University Singers and the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir will perform a “Carnegie Hall Preview Concert” at 5 p.m. ET May 22 at Sursa Performance Hall on Ball State’s campus. This performance by the two groups features more than 80 singers along with Sursa Hall’s Goulding & Wood pipe organ and Benjamin Britten and Herbert Howells. “Since 1964, the University Singers have been recognized as one of America’s top collegiate entertainment organizations,” a release announcing the two performances said. “The group, open to all majors by audition, is composed of 40 students including singers, dancers, instrumentalists, and sound technicians. The touring ensemble, recognized as Indiana’s Official Goodwill Ambassadors, performs multiple times per year throughout the state and nation, ending each season with the “Spectacular” performance on Ball State’s campus.”

Brown Family Amphitheater Ceremony

May 23 at 4:30 p.m., the Brown Family Amphitheater will be introduced to Ball State University campus in a ceremony. Said amphitheater/ceremony is located between Park and Pruis Halls and between Noyer and Woodworth Complexes to the north of Riverside Avenue.

The Brown Family Amphitheater came to fruition as a gift from Charles W. Brown, ’71, and Louise Tetrick. Once complete, the Brown Family Amphitheater will offer artists and audiences a state-of-the-art performance facility that allows Ball State and Muncie an outdoor venue to bring people together for theatre and music while providing a flexible space for other activities held outdoors. 

According to a release sent out by Ball State University May 18, “In addition to a stage, the facility will feature dressing rooms, a green room, storage space, a control room, and a loading dock. More specifically, the facility will feature a booth/mix station with a lightboard, and soundboard with a line of sight to the stage. There will also be elevated spotlights, distributed power throughout the venue, motors and truss lighting over the stage, and more.”
