The end of the year is approaching. Students are embarking on finals week, preparing to move out of their dorms while looking for off-campus summer jobs. But for a graduating senior, the end of the year means more.
Taking photos around campus in your cap and gown is a tradition many graduating seniors take part in — it’s a way to show off what they are wearing to graduation, announce to friends and family their college career is at an end or create a cute social media post.
As the year comes to a close and with graduation a couple of weeks away, consider looking into these places around campus for senior photos.
1. Shafer Tower
As one of Ball State’s staples lining McKinley Avenue, it’s a must to take a photo in front of — or underneath — Shafer Tower. Posing in your cap and gown near the tower gives your photos the perfect Ball State backdrop, showing off the main road through campus and some of Ball State’s most iconic buildings. Consider taking some photos underneath the tower, too — showing that now, as a graduate, you no longer have to worry about the popular Ball State myth that it brings bad luck.
2. Frog Baby
Centered in University Green near Alexander M. Bracken Library, Frog Baby is one of the many popular stops on Ball State’s campus. It is one of the most common areas for students to hang out and study. Because of that, consider taking your photos with one of Ball State’s most iconic landmarks. Many students will take photos in the fountain housing Frog Baby, posing up close with the statue.
Some may argue there is no landmark more iconic to Ball State and its campus than Beneficence, making it the perfect location to take senior photos. Many students take photos posing in front of the statue, popping a bottle of champagne or throwing their cap into the air.
4. David Owsley Museum of Art
Centered in the heart of the Quad, the David Owsley Museum of Art (DOMA) makes the perfect backdrop for graduation photos. The outside of the building is old-fashioned, professional and is sure to make you look even better in your cap and gown. If you want more photos, the inside of DOMA houses some of the best artwork on campus, which can also make your photos more unique than some of the more traditional ones for graduation.
5. Ball State University sign
There are multiple signs leading to campus featuring the Ball State name and logo, which can be one of the best places to show off your cap and gown. If you want just a traditional photo in front of the school you graduated from, this is one of the best ways to achieve just that.
