Ball State Athletics has announced the hiring of its next men's basketball head coach – Michael Lewis.

Lewis is a current UCLA assistant coach, where he has spent the last three seasons coaching, and played at Indiana University (1996-2000). He will officially join the Cardinals after the Bruins conclude the 2022 season.

"Basketball in our state is personified in Michael Lewis,” Ball State Director of Athletics Beth Goetz said in a press release. β€œHis outlook on the game, relationship building, recruiting network, pedigree and proactive approach to engagement with our stakeholders resides at a high level. Additionally, his program values and standards on the court, in the classroom and the community will create a road map for the Cardinals to move onward, compete for Mid-American Conference titles and position our institution for a return to the NCAA Tournament. We are thrilled to welcome him, his wife Nichole along with their daughters Avery and Emma to Ball State.”

Lewis' coaching career has also taken him to Stephen F. Austin (2004-05), Eastern Illinois (2005-2022), Butler (2011-2016) and Nebraska (2016-19) before joining the Bruins in 2019. Holding all of these positions as an assistant coach, Lewis will take the top job in Muncie, Indiana.
