On Nov. 18, Ball State Student Government Association (SGA) held their weekly meeting over Zoom and introduced an amendment establishing the SGA endorsement process.
This amendment defines the process that SGA can use to endorse actions taken by different campus organizations, a process that is not formalized in the SGA bylaws.
“This [amendment] would just set the parameters for what the executive board as a whole can endorse,” said President Pro Tempore Dylan Lewandowski.
Senator James Wells asked if this amendment would change what individuals can and cannot support, particularly on the executive board, and if an amendment would need to be proposed detailing this process for an individual.
Lewandowski said this amendment would not affect what an individual can and cannot endorse, but is willing to help Wells create an amendment.
The senate will vote on the amendment at a later date.
SGA was also presented with a new senate applicant, Eli Lucas, a junior public relations major.
Lucas has been involved with SGA in the past, as the SGA representative for LGBTQ student organization Spectrum. Lucas is the current president of Spectrum. He also served as a representative on the chair for Student Rights, Ethics and Standards, as well as the Alumni Council.
“I really look forward to coming back to SGA and shaking things up,” Lucas said.
Lucas was admitted into the senate by a vote of 39-0, with two abstentions.
SGA President Connor Sanburn also reminded senators to be safe when leaving for Thanksgiving break, saying “as we go home, we bring our college germs with us.”
“Monitor your symptoms once you’re at home, maintain proper COVID guidelines and just avoid large gatherings. I know that with Thanksgiving, it’s going to be weird this year, but just be smart about it,” Sanburn said.
SGA will not be hosting a Zoom meeting next Wednesday, Nov. 25, due to Thanksgiving break, but will be hosting one the following Wednesday, Dec. 2.
