Writer's Studio holds weekly Zoom events

MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) -- Since the start of Covid-19, many students have struggled to connect with people like years prior. Even though the pandemic causes many people to have to rethink their social connections, it is still possible to interact with people on campus.

The Writer’s Studio is a perfect way to regain connection and help express anxious feelings. Assistant Professor of Creative Writing Katy Didden said, “In the creative writing program we place a high priority on community as essential to the writing process and we really believe that writing doesn’t happen in a vacuum it is not a solitary experience.”

Many writers can express their emotions with peers, staff, and alumni to help the pandemic seem a little more capable.

Professor Didden mentioned how “words reach beyond isolation.”

Even though the pandemic is difficult for everyone, the writer’s studio is a way for students to come together and put their feelings into words. Not only this, but it has created a safe environment for encouragement and creativity.

Didden said, “It actually lets us be more informal and it draws people from many different workshops, so it lets us be more down to earth.”

The Writer’s Studio has virtual events on Zoom every Tuesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. Each week a new guest hosts the meeting and teaches a master craft class to help students practice and strengthen their creative writing skills. If interested in creating connections through writing and finding another coping mechanism throughout these unprecedented times visit the Ball State website to learn more.
