Due to weather concerns, the City of Muncie changed the Halloween trick-or-treating hours to Nov. 1.

Trick-or-treating hours will now be held 5-9 p.m. Friday instead, an email from the Office of the Mayor states.

According to a Facebook post by the City of Muncie, the decision was made due to the safety of the children who will be out in the weather — which calls for high winds, rain and possibly snow.

"We understand that this is difficult for parents, but our priority is the safety of the children running around in wind, and rain and snow who could possibly be hit by a car that cannot either see them because of the weather conditions or stop in time because of the slick conditions," the Facebook post reads.

While the city hopes people can take their children out Friday, when the weather will be much better, the post reads it stands by the decision to keep the event as safe as possible.

Sean O'Melia, residence hall director at Ball State, said the trick-or-treating event in residence halls, scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the university, will not be changing because it will be held indoors.
