Michigan State president resigns

The president of Michigan State University announced her resignation via the school's website Wednesday night.

President Lou Anna K. Simon was expected to resign before the end of the week, according to The State News.

In light of how Simon addressed ex-MSU student Larry Nassar’s court case, the Michigan State community’s call for her resignation has been what The State News calls “overwhelming.”

Among those who have called for Simon’s resignation include MSU trustees, the Michigan House of Representatives and state legislators.

An anonymous source who spoke with The State News said the MSU Board of Trustees would have Simon step down by Friday at its meeting.

At the end of Simon's letter, chair of the MSU Board of Trustees Brian Breslin said the board accepted her resignation.

Currently, there is no interim president set to replace the president, something the source said was “the hold up” in the president’s resignation.

The Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday the MSU Board of Trustees are working on a succession plan for after the president’s resignation.
