Crime Roundup: MPD, UPD respond to pharmacy robberies, shots fired

Thursday, July 27

Friday, July 28   

A Walgreens pharmacist called the police to report someone using a fake prescription to get Xanax.    

Police responded to the Walgreens in the 2700 block of W. Jackson shortly before 7 a.m.    

Muncie Police Department arrested Kathryn Sexton, 23, Albany, who was preliminary charged with prescription form violations, dealing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.    

Police also arrested Donna Knott, 42, Muncie, who was preliminary charged with dealing a controlled substance, forgery, and identity deception.    

The pharmacist told police when he called the doctor about the prescription, the doctor confirmed that the prescription was fake.    

Sexton later admitted to police she sold pills to four different people earlier in the day.  

Tuesday, August 1    

A woman called police after she said a gunshot was fired at her by someone she was in a relationship with.    

Muncie and University Police Departments responded to the Cardinal Vista Apartments in the 1200 block of W. Bethel and spoke with the woman, who said they were in an argument.    

Lance Simon, 32, Muncie, was arrested and preliminary charged with criminal confinement, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, battery with injury, intimidation, criminal recklessness, domestic battery and booked in on four counts of county warrants.    

The woman told police her and Simon had been drinking earlier in the day and got into an argument.   

A probable cause affidavit stated Simon punched and hit her in the face with a handgun, pushed her into a wall, wouldn’t let her leave and pointed a handgun at her.    

A search warrant later executed found the bullet hole in a wall and a handgun.      

Wednesday, August 2    

After two robberies at pharmacies in Muncie, police made an arrest in the cases.    

Darrin May, 25, Muncie, was arrested and preliminary charged with two counts of robbery, a Level 5 felony.    

In a probable cause affidavit, police said May demanded morphine medications from the Walgreens in the 100 block of McGalliard Road.

On July 31, another robbery of pain medication took place at the CVS Pharmacy in the 3300 block of E. Jackson.    

Police believed the same suspect robbed both pharmacies.    

After interviewing witnesses, police arrested May at the Redwood Mobile Home Park. He is currently being held on a $30,000 bond.

Fallen officers 

Southport police Lt. Aaron Allan, was shot multiple times and killed after walking up to a car that had flipped.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital Thursday afternoon. 

Police arrested Jason Brown on preliminary murder charges in connection to the death of Allan. 

IMPD Deputy Cheif Jim Waters passed away in Thursday, July 27, after he was involved in an accident on I-70. 

He was off-duty when his unmarked vehicle was hit from behind by a semi-truck. 

Gov. Eric Holcomb has ordered flags in Marion County to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday. 

Man pleads guilty to sexual assault at fraternity house

Ryan Smith, who was charged with an alleged sexual battery that occurred in October, admitted his guilt in the case.

According to WISH TV, an agreement was reached on July 3 with Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman that will drop the charge if Smith follows the agreement.

The agreement calls for Smith to pay court fees totaling $330, have no contact with the female, not violate the law in any way and to "maintain employment or course of study toward higher education and support all dependents as required by law," according to the article.
