A Ball State student will spend three years on supervised release for his role in an international, multimillion-dollar hacking ring.

Austin Alcala was sentenced on April 19 in Delaware by U.S. District Judge Gregory M. Sleet.

Alcala is one of four suspects originally charged with 18 felonies, including fraud, identity theft and copyright infringement in a federal indictment that was unsealed in 2014.

According to authorities, the group of hackers — called the XU Group — stole $100 million in Apache helicopter flight simulation software from the U.S. Army and Xbox game software from Microsoft Corp. for several games that included "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" and "Gears of War 3."

Alcala pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit computer fraud and copyright infringement. Federal prosecutors dismissed the rest of the charges as part of the plea deal.

The other suspects have also have pleaded guilty to the same charge.
