SGA elects pro-tempore for 2016-17 year

Bailey Loughlin was elected as the 2016-17 president pro-tempore for Student Government Association at the March 30 student senate meeting.

Loughlin, a junior hospitality and food management major, has been a student senator for three years. She is the current president of Step In. Speak Up., and has been collaborating with other senators to bring gender neutral bathrooms to campus.

Loughlin said she was nervous about the senate vote, but she is excited for next year and has big plans.

“I’m looking forward to actually being able to interact with senators and help them reach their potential and see where they can go,” Loughlin said. “My biggest goal would be to be able to transition senators and new senators into being those top-experienced senators who are going to be strong.”

Her platform points were culture, development and engagement within SGA.

She hopes to bring a more social aspect to senate so student senators can get to know each other on more personal levels.

She also wants to make sure parliamentary procedure is better understood by senators to give them more of a voice in senate, as well as bring administrators into senate for meet-and-greets to help build better relationships.
