After 20 years of business, the Heorot Pub and Draught House will celebrate its anniversary tonight.

The bar will host a pre-party at Valhalla beginning at 5 p.m. Doors to the Heorot will open at 7 p.m.

In addition to the anniversary, the Heorot was also recently listed on Draft Magazine’s Top Ten Beer Bars for the 5th consecutive year, according to Loren Foley, manager of the Heorot.

Foley compares the pub to a Viking meeting hall known as a Heorot, the pub’s namesake from the epic poem Beowulf.

“Business has been good,“ he said. “The course craft industry has skyrocketed and that brought more competition but even with that, we stay really solid. We may get a hit when other bars first open, but even their frequent customers come here.”

Even with the opening of new bars in Muncie, Foley said the company’s wide selection of beer keeps a consistent wave of customers.

Junior animation major Ethan Yazel said he visits the bar for the vibe it has.

“I think it’s a great example of a homegrown local bar,” said Yazel. “There aren’t TV’s on every wall, no one is shouting about football and people aren’t getting trashed.”

Foley said the pub will sell shirts beforehand and host mini-games for customers.

The Tom Cats Band will perform at 7:30 p.m., and the bar will offer snacks and refreshments at no additional charge.
