Brothers Bar & Grill is planning to give out t-shirts and prizes this weekend in an effort to draw in business after having its grand opening today.
The bar is one of a chain of restaurants in the Midwest owned by brothers Eric and Marc Fortney. The Muncie location is the 18th restaurant.
It will also host a Twitter contest giving away Ball State football tickets.
“We do anticipate a big crowd this evening, especially after classes let out, “ said Lauren Hughes, a senior journalism major and a host at the restaurant. “And because it’s Homecoming Week.”
She said that the daily drink specials Brothers offer will help bring people in to the bar.
Eric Fortney, one of the founding brothers, thinks that students will enjoy the new variety of food available.
“We’re here to really add to the area,” Fortney said. “We’ve got great food, we’ve got a full scratch kitchen. [Students will like] having a nice sports bar.”
Tyler Wilson, a junior criminal justice major who works at the restaurant, said that he noticed a difference between Brothers and other bars in the area.
“I think the biggest thing is that it’s a nicer bar, it’s cleaner than most of the bars around here,” Wilson said. “It’s a good atmosphere, I think it will be a great market for Muncie and Ball State.”
Alaina Daugherty, a freshman business administration major, said that Brothers sounds like a good restaurant for students, but she has yet to stop in.
“It looks really nice,” said Daugherty. “I haven’t really seen a lot of advertisements but I’ve heard a lot of people talking about it.”
