Ball State men’s tennis team completed day two at the 36th annual Ball State Fall Invitational Sept. 27 at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
In singles competition of the Flight A bracket, senior Patrick Elliott advanced to the final match after defeating Marquette’s Andre Romanello (6-3, 6-2), then later defeating Cam Tehrani of Marquette in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Elliott will match up with Dayton’s Zach Berry in the championship Sept. 28 at 9 a.m.
Sophomore Lucas Andersen lost in the quarterfinals, falling to Zack Berry of Dayton, 6-3, 6-2.
In the Flight B bracket, true freshman Colin Rigney defeated Jose Nader Calero in straight sets then went on to beat Tom Sizeland of IPFW, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Rigney faces Chicago State’s Christian Gonzales Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. in the championship match.
In the consolation Flight A bracket, senior Ray Leonard advanced to the semifinal round Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. after he took down Chicago State’s Mario Noboa in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.
In doubles play, Rigney and Leonard won 8-6 in the first match-up but lost in the afternoon match. Teammates Andersen and Elliot will play in the final round Sept. 28 at 11:30 a.m.
Jan Jirus and Patrick O’Connor won against Bradley Luetschwager and Matt Moe of IUPUI, 8-7(5), but lost in the afternoon match. Patrick Downs and Matt Helm lost in the semifinals to Dayton’s Colin Bernier and Simon Jayaram, 8-4.
