Ball State starting safety Dae’Shaun Hurley tore his ACL Saturday in the first half of the game against Colgate and will be out for the remainder of the season, coach Pete Lembo said.
Sophomore Martez Hester finished the game in his place. Hester is expected to start the remainder of the season for the Cardinals.
Hurley finished fourth on the team last season with 83 total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss. He also forced and recovered two fumbles.
Hester, who started five games last season, recorded 32 tackles. He finished second on the team with two interceptions.
Ball State will travel to Iowa on Saturday where Hester will start the game. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
