4th Quarter

Iowa defeats Ball State 17-13.

After picking up a first down, Iowa’s drive came to a halt. Iowa punted and Ball State took over on its own 23.

Mann hit Chris Shillings for a first down, and Edwards followed with a seven-yard run. The drive stalled, and after a punt, Iowa took over on its own 2 yard line.

Rudock started the drive with a nine-yard completion to Jake Duzey, and then moved the chains with a pass to running back Kevonte Martin-Manley to the 16 yard line. On first down, Rudock scrambled up the middle for three yards, and moved the chains on a third down completion. Rudock then completed a pass to Bullock for 11 yards to the Iowa 31 yard line. The drive stalled at Iowa’s 43, and the Hawkeyes were forced to punt. Aaron Hepp called for a fair catch at the Ball State 20.

Edwards ran the ball three times for seven yards on Ball State’s drive, and the Cardinals punted to the Iowa 31.

Rudock completed a nine yard pass to Martin-Manly on second and 10, and Damon Bullock ran for the first down on the next play. Rudock then completed a pass to Bullock to the Ball State 49 yard line, and followed that with a 16-yard scramble to Ball State’s 34. An eight-yard pass on third and six gave Iowa a first at the Ball State 22, and Rudock ran for 10 yards to the 12.

On first down, Rudock threw a touchdown to Derrick Willies to make the score 13-10 in favor of Ball State.

After a touchback, Ball State started its drive at its 25 yard line. Edwards ran the ball for three yards, but was stuffed for a loss of four on second down. Iowa called its final two timeouts after each run. Facing third and 11, Mann threw incomplete and Secor punted.

Iowa returned the punt to its own 40 yard line.

After back to back completions to open the drive, Rudock found Bullock for a nine-yard completion to the Ball State 34 yard line. Bullock ran for a first, while Rudock threw and ran for two more. On the Ball State 12 yard line, Rudock found Duzey for a touchdown, giving Iowa a 17-13 lead after the extra point.

Eric Patterson ran the kickoff to Ball State’s 25 yard line, with 54 seconds remaining in the game.

Mann threw to Jordan Williams on the left side for nine yards, but Mann fumbled on the next play and Iowa recovered at the Ball State 29.

After Ball State’s challenge was upheld, Iowa ran out the clock.

3rd Quarter

At the end of the third quarter, Ball State leads Iowa 13-3.

After a touchback, Ball State took over on its 25-yard line, but was forced to punt after a quick three-and-out. Iowa took over on its 28-yard line.

Ball State quickly forced a punt of its own, and took over on its seven-yard line. Mann dumped the ball off to Edwards, who ran to the Ball State 29-yard line. On third and long, Ball State couldn’t convert, and Iowa took over on 28.

After getting the football back, Ball State went three and out, but picked up a first down on a running into the kicker penalty on Iowa. Mann would hit Mabon to get Ball State into the redzone, but an intentional grounding penalty moved the team back. The drive stalled, Secor kicked a field goal and Ball State extended its lead to 10-3.

Ball State forced a fumble on the kickoff and recovered on the Iowa 23-yard line. The Cardinals kicked a field goal, giving Ball State a 13-3 lead.

Iowa quickly moved the ball down the field, but missed its third field goal of the game and Ball State took over on its 20-yard line.

Edwards picked up an 18-yard gain but a holding penalty slowed down the drive. Ball State’s punt put Iowa on its 27-yard line, and the clock expired a couple plays later.

2nd Quarter

At halftime, Ball State leads Iowa 7-3.

Ball State was unable to gain another first down opening the second quarter, and punted. Iowa took over on its 23.

Iowa attempted to hand the ball off, but fumbled, and Ball State’s Blake Dueitt returned it for a touchdown. After the extra point, Ball State led 7-0.

The Hawkeyes started the next possession on its 25, and Rudock threw a 53-yard pass to move the Hawkeyes to the Cardinals' 13-yard line. Iowa would settle for a field goal, cutting Ball State’s lead to 7-3.

After a touchback, Ball State took over on its 25-yard line, but failed to gain a first down, punting after a three-and-out. Iowa took over on its 28-yard line.

Ball State quickly forced a punt and took over on its six-yard line. Mann dumped the ball off to Edwards, who ran to the Ball State 29-yard line. On third and long, Ball State couldn’t convert, however, and Iowa took over on its 24-yard line. 

Rudock quickly moved the ball down the field, converting several third downs, but Iowa's kicker Marshall Koehn missed his second field goal on the day.  Ball State ran out the clock.

1st Quarter

At the end of the first quarter, Ball State and Iowa are tied at 0.

Iowa began its first drive on its 28-yard line. Ball State forced a quick three-and-out, and Ball State took over on its 27-yard line.

Jahwan Edwards broke off a seven yard run, followed by a six yard run for a first down. Ball State’s Ozzie Mann completed passes to KeVonn Mabon and Edwards for another first down. After a five-yard false start penalty, the drive fell apart. Scott Secor missed a 53 yard field goal, and Iowa took over on its 36-yard line.

After picking up a couple first downs through the air, Iowa faced a third down and nine, when Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard hit receiver Damond Powell for a touchdown. The score was called back after review. Iowa punted, and Ball State took over on its six-yard line.

Cardinals running back Horactio Banks started the drive off with two straight runs of no gain, and Edwards carried for a gain of six. Ball State punted and Iowa took over on its 49-yard line.

After a pass interference penalty, Iowa used two running plays to move into the redzone. On third down, Ball State’s Ben Ingle blew up a screen and forced fourth down. Iowa missed the field goal with 1:47 left in the first quarter.

Mann hit Mabon for a first down, and Edwards ran for a first down to end the quarter.
