MAC announces Reese and Jacoby awards

The Mid-American Conference announced today its top institutional awards for the 2013-14 academic year. The Reese and Jacoby Trophies are given to the top men's and women’s athletic programs in the conference.

Ball State finished fifth in the standings for the Reese Trophy and last for the Jacoby Trophy.

These annual awards are based on a point system for athletics. Points are awarded based on each MAC school’s finish, with the overall total points divided by the number of sports each school sponsors.

The men’s Reese Trophy is named after the first MAC commissioner, David E. Reese, who served from 1946-1964.

Akron University won the Reese Trophy with a point average of 9.93. Ball State’s average was 6.91.

The Jacoby Trophy is named after former commissioner Fred Jacoby, who is credited for introducing women’s athletics into the conference structure.

Kent State won the Jacoby Trophy with a 9.167-point average, while Ball State earned a 5.04.
