UPD will be prepared for Mardi Gras

University Police Department say it will be prepared for Mardi Gras, though there will be no extra officers on duty tonight.

Gene Burton, chief of police, said UPD would do everything in its power to keep Ball State and the surrounding area safe.

“There are no worries,” he said. “We will be prepared for Mardi Gras.”

Burton also said UPD will work with the Muncie police, if necessary.

If students do drink, they are encouraged to designate a sober driver or to take advantage of Charlie’s Charter for on-campus rides.

Muncie will celebrate Muncie Gras, its version of Mardi Gras, from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. March 22 on Walnut Street in downtown for those who are 21 and older. Tickets are $15 in advance and $22 at the event.
