Police: Driver drinking before gas station crash

RICHMOND

The 45-year-old driver and a 23-year-old passenger were in serious condition at a Dayton, Ohio, hospital from injuries they suffered during the weekend crash in Richmond.

Police Lt. Don Benedict tells the Palladium-Item that the crash scene and debris field spread for 500 feet around the Speedway station.

The crash caused a brief fire at the fuel pumps. The station was closed Monday as crews tore down the damaged canopy over the pumping area.

Police say the driver had a blood-alcohol content of 0.22 percent, nearly three times the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit to drive.
