The women’s tennis team continued to perform well early this season, winning its fifth match of the season today against Cleveland State, 6-1.
Ball State started off by winning the doubles point with a 6-3 win from the team of Toni Ormond and Kristel Sanders, a 6-3 loss by the doubles team of Bethany Moore and Courtney Earnest and a close 7-6 win from Courtney Wild and Ashlyn Rang.
“Courtney and Ashlyn really gained composure,” Ball State coach Max Norris said. “They lost a lot of momentum and really held it together well.”
In singles action, Ball State began with a win from Earnest, who defeated Vikings player Kara Sherwood, 6-1 and 6-0.
Cleveland State would then pick up a point when Alex Bush defeated Ormond 2-6 and 3-6.
The third point for Ball State was picked up when Ayaka Terashi defeated Cleveland State’s Ellen Folkers, 6-2 and 6-2.
Ball State would clinch the meet when Moore defeated Mathilde Orange, 6-1, 6-4.
Wild would finish up the meet, winning at the No. 1 seed against Princess Gbadamosi, 6-4 and 6-1.
Ball State moves to 5-1 on the season and remains undefeated at home at 4-0.
Ball State women’s tennis will next compete at home Feb. 15 against Cincinnati.
